Watching Star Trek for the first time (again)

Jim Reed's baby was born on the Adam-12 that aired the week of my birth; and Max and 99's twins on Get Smart the week after that, in the second half of a two-parter. It seems to have been a theme week.

I probably watched the Adam-12 ep, but don't remember it. It was a regular watch at our house.

I DO remember the Get Smart baby episode, watched it that night, although my brain years later thought it was triplets, not twins.

I'm glad you were able to contribute to that theme. :)

John Hoyt was on two weeks in a row, first in the 10-06-65 rerun of I Spy and then the 10-27-65 rerun of The Virginian.

Lorelei and I have taken to watching I,Spy in its summer reruns now that the cast are in Japan. What a cool show. And hey -- it's that guy from Forbidden Planet! This is from the 65-11-03 episode, The Time of the Knife.

Sorry I've not had too much to report this summer. Been busy hitting the beach and getting ready for Star Trek when it airs in September (including a showing of the pilots at Tricon -- drop me a line if you're interested in watching with us!)

But for now, here's a "Chinese" butler I saw on the rerun of the 12-16-65 My Three Sons...

In my case, it's a pure coincidence that my viewing lined up with the rerun date, as I've been watching the last 55th anniversary season delayed as a hiatus thing between 50th anniversary seasons.

Did you notice what happened with 12 O'Clock High where the 12th-aired episode ("We're Not Coming Back") was supposed to be the first part of a two-parter with the 5th-aired episode ("Big Brother")? This is why we didn't get a lot of episode-to-episode continuity in '60s TV, and in Trek's case, why they chose to split up "The Naked Time" and "Tomorrow Is Yesterday".

I'm afraid I haven't caught 12 O'Clock High regularly since they axed Lansing. I am looking forward to The Man Who Never Was though!

So this is really neat. I couldn't believe it was George Takei on the 12-15-65 episode of I, Spy -- after all, he was in L.A. at the time, right? Not Japan.

But he showed up on the Hong Kong based My Three Sons the prior week. Clearly, he was taking an acting vacation in the Orient!

I Spy liked to promote that they were shooting in remote countries and locations, and it was true for some exteriors, but much of the rest was shot at Desilu. :)

As my reply is not in the "timeline" or spirit of this thread I'm gonna $poiler code it.
@Harvey can correct me but I think this story is hooey.

There were 14 episodes filmed between the two. "The Naked Time" first aired on 29 Sept. 1966, and Fontana didn't even finish her 1st story outline for "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" until 3 October 1966. The only overlap was that Justman's initial short synopsis for "Tomorrow" is dated 8 days after Black's outline for "Naked", and then nothing was done with the idea until Fontana outlined it. I don't think we have that Justman document, but Fontana's first draft outline already has the "black star" thing happening.

In short, they could not have planned the two to connect if they were writing them that far apart...except mmmmmaybe they could have noodled with the notion when the ideas were first pitched.

We know “The Naked Time” was conceived as the first part of a two-parter—or at least as a show with a cliffhanger that would lead into the next episode. But there’s no evidence that “Tomorrow Is Yesterday” was going to be the second part. I don’t think they knew what the second part would be.

At some point—I think August of 1966–they did a few pickups and changed the ending of “The Naked Time” to be the episode as we have it.

For the record, here's Justman's initial idea from 12 April, 1966. No mention of it being connected to "Naked Time".
