Was there ever talk of a Voyager movie?

The Doctor and Seven of Nine pretty much ran the table anyway and I don't think I want

This was certainly true in the later seasons. In the first few seasons everyone got more time for personal stories which is why some fans like me prefer earlier Voyager.

You know, I actually don't necessarily disagree with that. Some of the ideas that were introduced in the first few seasons were really good ideas. They just weren't expounded on much in later seasons (what with the flashier concepts like the Borg and whatnot). The characters in the early seasons were being set up to develop and that is one of the redeeming factors of all the series early seasons (which, in my opinion, are the weaker seasons of all of them).

I would have liked to have seen a post Voyager TV movie, would have been interesting to see the characters in a new scenario: Back at Home.

Of course if it was all centered around just Janeway, Seven and The Doctor, I wouldn't have been interested, far more useful and interesting characters on that show.

Here's a question;

They've made Janeway an Admiral (she has an office in San Francisco) so, ostensibly, she's no longer the Commanding officer of Voyager (a ship which is no longer technologically supreme). That takes her off the bridge (not that putting her back on it would be difficult...I guess...) and behind a desk.

Unless you plan on dedicating the first act of this movie to photocopying TWoK (with the Doctor telling Janeway to get back her command before she truly does grow old) what the hell would it be about? Seven and the Doctor doing stand up? Torres and Paris running into the Obrien's at the supermarket? Harry... remaining an ensign? Tuvok's whacky misadventures with his family? Chakotay posing as a card board cut out of himself?

The only reason we were watching them was because they were stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Take that away and they were just another Starfleet ship. Their lives at home, as they were described or speculated on, didn't sound very interesting. I think they would be hard pressed to make a movie with these characters that really made any sense.

Other than Seven and perhaps the Doc a little bit, all of the Voyager characters are 100% identical from the first episode to the very last.
it's border-hyperbolic statements like this that make VOY fans wonder whether some critics of the show ever really watched it.

in actuality folks, a VOY movie was apparently discussed sometime during the fourth or fifth season according to comments by KM and RD. they both stated in interviews that a movie was in discussion but was only in the very early stages at that point. it obviously never got beyond that.

sounds great man, do you have any more info on what was the plot?

Scorpion was basically a movie for Voy I guess?

Care to provide any links to those interviews? I'd really like to read them.

I imagine the discussion got as far as:

"Hey, how about a Voyager movie?"
"LOL!"

It looks like my original post has been messed up somewhere down the road. It should look like this:

I just happen to like those characters. They are very good characters with interesting backgrounds, not the usual Starfleet types.

How does that make for 'good' characters? :wtf:

Good characters should be developed and have some unique and interesting personality traits, etc. Where are those things on Voyager?

unfortunately, i don't remember at the moment and all the VOY fansites i have links to are currently lost on a broken down HD. however, i do remember that each of the separate interviews with KM and RD a question about a movie was limited to one simple question like, "is there any talk of a VOY movie for the big screen?" each of their answers were just as simple along the lines of, "i know there's talk of a VOY movie, but we haven't been informed about anything beyond that." i was very interested in finding more info about the plot, but it doesn't look like there was anymore. hence, i think it never got past the preliminary discussion stage.

"dark frontier" is typically what's considered the closest to a movie that VOY ever got.
