Was there an episode of ST: Deep Space Nine that hooked you?

Emissary was great and made me want to watch the show but i didn't get hooked on DS9 till Way of the warrior and the fourth season in general was when it became my favorite Star Trek show.

Strangely enough, it was You Are Cordially Invited, which I guess a lot of people loathed since it was a light comedy-inflected show on the heels of Ziyal's tragic death. But I didn't know that at the time! I loved it, caught up on the show quick, watching the last half of S6 at the same time.

That marked my return to Star Trek fandom after being alienated by TNG. Nobody told me Star Trek was good again (tho in retrospect, my oldest brother did mention that DS9 was "amazing" - that would have been right around the time of the Occupation Arc - and he knows lots more about sci fi than I do, I should have paid more attention.)

I'm another one who didn't really get hooked until The Way of the Warrior. Excellent episode, plus I already loved Worf from TNG.

I've probably seen only two-thirds of DS9 episodes. Just started watching from the beginning today...

Can't remember the name. Sisko and his son were in some sort of accident, and Sisko vanished. He kept showing up every several years for a few minutes at a time as his son got older and older. I think it was the father/son dialogue and interactions that hooked me. It just struck me as better/deeper/more realistic than what I had scene on any TV show.

Welcome to DS9

Good show

For me DS9 was just the sister show, TNG was what I got into first and DS9 was just a way to sample a bit more of that universe even if the characters weren't gelling with me.

Then Whispers aired.

The fact that it was about a TNG character obviously helped draw me in but as the mystery deepened I realised this was a show taking the franchise in a new direction and then the twist ending was something I felt TNG wouldn't have attempted so it began my love for the show in its own right, instead of just "TNG-Additional" ;)

Then the rest of that season kept being watchable with Maquis episodes and pretty soon DS9 was the series I looked forward to most, TNG and then Voy became my "little bit more" series instead ;)

I went into the series prepared to be hooked. I had been following Avery Brooks career for a long time before DS9, and had the opportunity to see him play Othello at the Folger Shakespeare Library in DC before DS9 started.

So I had a big professional crush on him and was ready to be dazzled when one of my favorite actors was heading into my very favorite franchise.

I wasn't disappointed.

After I began the show, I developed an affection for characters that surpassed Sisko...but that was the reason I watched from episode 1 forward.
