Was there an episode of ST: Deep Space Nine that hooked you?

Not really. I loved TNG and 1993-1994 was the height of my Trek fandom so I enjoyed anything Star Trek. DS9 came and I loved it because it was more Star Trek on the TV.
DVD Viewing - First Time
I wanted to separate my responses because after the show went off, it was really hard to get access to because it was not on. Then 2003 (I think that was the year) came out and this forum was rocking because a lot of people were getting into (or back into) DS9 and I finally had access to the series. Then I got to In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light and holy crap that hooked me on the series. Yeah the stuff that came before it (The Visitor, which I had seen on syndicated TV) was great, but these two episodes took the layers that were already laid and completely turned the Star Trek universe upside down. It's one of the big reasons why Season 5 is my favorite season because of what came out of these two episodes alone. Granted, there were issues with the Runabout and what it was doing above the prison, but when you have: Garek revealing that he was Tain's son, Bashier a changeling, Dukat joining the dominion and making a dominion/cardassia alliance, Martok still alive, well that all made up for everything. It's also why whenever the question of which two parter was better, Improbable Cause/Die is Cast or By Inferno's Light/In Purgatory's shadow, I've got to go for the latter just because of what it did for the rest of the series.

Me too. Cardassians are cool, diverse, and not stereotypical douche bags like Klingons.
I tuned out Emissary when it originally aired because it bored me to tears. Nowadays, everything in Emissary still bores me to tears, except for Alaimo's immaculate performance.
Hence, I didn't bother watching DS9 til I realized how good (most of) it is, a few years after it went off the air. I think I happened upon a rerun of "Covenant" while channel surfing, and thought, "Hmm, this is interesting, I'm surprised to see something interesting on television" (TV is rarely ever interesting IMO). After that I started tuning in to more reruns and found the other episodes interesting too.
If I had happened to tune into one of (most of) S1's episodes in reruns, I probably would have continued to think DS9 was crap.

What hooked me about this episode was Sisko punching Q, and Q's reaction. It still makes me laugh every time, and once Sisko showed me exactly how badass he can be I was a true fan. I was a big fan of TNG and had struggled through the first few episodes despite thinking at the time (but not now) that the pace was too slow. A real liking for O'Brien and his "bloody hells" had helped to keep me watching, too.
My husband and I are currently rewatching all the DS9 series on DVD and the show just gets better with every viewing.
FOr me it was "Emissary." I truly believed that this was the beginning of something great. "The Jem'Hadar" made me even more excited for DS9. "The Way of the Warrior" firmly put DS9 on the map as my favorite Trek. The rest of the series continued to reinforce it with episodes such as the 6-part Dominion War arc, "In the Pale Moonlight," and "Trial and Tribble-ations." After "In the Pale Moonlight," I felt that there were are a couple of missteps such as "His Way" and the Pah Wraith - Dukat arc... but the last 10 final episodes really made me sad to see the series go.
The pod ejection scene was gold. That look on Sisko's face looked very real in the reflection of the ship exploding.
I often wondered how I'd react if my wife had been on the Saratoga, it would prolly be much like Sisko's
The one that stands out for me was "Waltz"....it was compelling and kept me hooked throughout. Great acting by guest star Harris Yulin.
You're thinking of "Duet". I like that episode, but I hated most of season 1, and the first time I watched that season none of the episodes (including that one) really stood out to me. I did really like Harris Yulin's performance, but it was hard to remember much in season 1.
Watching all the season 1 episodes at once, it was like one long, boring and forgettable episode that made me very reluctant to watch more DS9. I think "Whispers" was the first one that I was really blown away by. It showed me that the series could do really creative, unpredictable stories that no other Star Trek series had done. Going where no series had gone before, so to speak.

First time I properly watched Deep Space Nine I'd already bought the entire series on DVD, so I was still going to watch it no matter what. The first season had some OK episodes and some bad episodes, but I was like "Oh, it's all right, the first season is supposed to be not so good, stick with it..."
Then I watched "Duet". And I was like "HOLY FCKSHNTKJEKBDKEBDK THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!"
And from then on it just kept getting better and better, so I got progressively more hooked as I went on. (Except for after watching "Let He Who Is Without Sin", after which I stopped my several-weeks-long marathon and didn't pick it up again for a couple of months, but immediately got re-hooked again with "Things Past".) For me it was "Duet". It showed that science fiction genre does not need just lots of CGI explosions , overloaded battle/fight scenes to be great. They are cool too but not everything. All needed is great creative writing and inspired acting like Nana Visitor and Harris Yulin performed in that episode. Duet was like watching a stage play.

It was probably 'The Jem'Hadar' that firmly grabbed my attention, though I'd been watching from The Circle Trilogy on and off. I was a bit confused and thought the Enterprise had blown up, as I'd only starting watching TNG in season 7. By the time season 3 of DS9 rolled around I was much more firmly on the Star Trek bandwagon.
I also got into Star Trek in the mid 90's. Where I lived, at the time, we didn't get the channels that had Star Trek Voyager or Star Trek Deep Space Nine. So my uncle went out of his way to record as many episodes as he could from where he lived onto a VHS, and then shipped them to my father and me.
I didn't really pay much attention to DS9 until maybe six months later from first seeing Voyager because I saw Warf in one episode and knew he was from The Enterprise, having seen those movies before the episodes. I cannot recall what the name of the episode is, but its the one where Warfs son has to fight someone. That got me interested a little and then, in my mind, "a Keebler elf" got me hooked more because of the odd, huge ears. When I figured out that Sisko was an emissary to The Prophets, Dukat sabotaging the shrine on DS9 (my reaction: "well those red eyes arn't a good sign."), and then Dax dying in one episode, it sucked me in.
Forgive me for not knowing the seasons or names of the episodes I took time to describe. It's been a while, but I will get myself back up to date.
