Was pretty excited for this show.. but ultimately underwhelmed...

We've also seen consciousness transfer in several different Trek eras, notably by a human researcher in Ira Graves, in season 2 TNG. I believe the transfer was accurate, it was Data's body and abilities that exaggerated his personality foibles.
Indeed. Picard is just honoring past Trek tech.

'Picard sucks!"
"Discovery does!"
"P!"
"Q!"

The show just wasn’t inspiring like the earlier shows. People swearing constantly, mist of the characters seeming like they have 20th and 21st century sensibilities and behaviors, Starfleet no longer a bastion for doing the right thing. Yeah all Star Trek has shown a bad apple now and then but Picard showed a barrel of bad apples,

Ok...and?
People swearing constantly
Which scene was that. Must have missed it.

As opposed to 24th century sensibilities which treated the 20th century as animals and barbarians.
Starfleet no longer a bastion for doing the right thing.
So, Star Trek?

Starfleet? You mean the organisation that once tried to force people from their homes or advocated for genocide not once but twice? Is that the Starfleet you're talking about?

advocated genocide? You mean the episode with the native Americans and Insurrection. That was relocation not genocide.

You really need to bone up on your Star Trek. I mean the genocidal plots against the Borg and the Founders. Admiral Nechayev gave Picard orders to use the virus that Hugh was originally planned to be infected with to wipe out the collective if he ever got the opportunity. The Federation and Starfleet were also complicit in Section 31's plot to wipe out the Founders as evidence by Starfleet Medicals attempts to hinder Bashir when they became aware that he was trying to cure Odo.

Aren't we talking about the same Starfleet that has general orders that basically sentence people to death for visiting a restricted area or authorize starship captains to destroy a specific material by any means necessary without regard to any constitutional, legal or moral limits? The organization that happily throws its most important General Order regarding non-interference out the window the moment they realize the primitive species is sitting upon shiny stuff that Starfleet needs?

Also General Order 24, that's literally just genocide, if applied to a planet with a population, which is totally allowed.

The burg were destroying countless civilizations at that time. Starfleet was outclassed. A virus was all they had it we know in the end they opted to try and change the borg to be individuals. With the founders Starfleet was at war. Section 31 is a different matter altogether.

You can't criticise Starfleet for abandoning refugees and yet accept them being willing to commit genocide. You're moving goal posts because you don't like STP. And section 31 were the tool Starfleet used to keep their hands clean as evidenced by Admiral Ross's relationship with them.
