Was McCoy's timeline messed with as well?

My theory is that all Mc Coy needed to know medically was xenobiology. I figure he'd only really worked on humans in some small country practice. It would fit in with TOS Mc Coy. And I'm sure there's some basic Starfleet training all recuirts would have to take- like "How to Look Sexy in Your Uniform 101."

It's obvious our boy passed that one. :luvlove:

I am trying hard to remember....I thought McCoy and Kirk met after they were both in Star Fleet proper.

Well, I just bought season 1 of TOS on DVD. I can fully report in 6 months or so after I have watched every eppy.

The most radical change I saw with McCoy was him knowing how to work the conn during the Kobiyashi Maru.

While I realize all officers probably have at least a rudimentary knowledge of how to operate the ship (in case of emergencies), I was never under the impression it was something McCoy had specific training for.

It was just... really odd seeing him there.

I came here to post about this, but decided to try a search first to see if it had already come up.

I've only seen the movie once, but it seems to me the station didn't seem exactly like the conn/helm/nav/whatever; instead it reminded me of the first officer's seat that Worf sits at on the Hathaway in the TNG ep Peak Performance (also, McCoy's actions seem more like a first officer than a helm officer).

Can anybody that's seen it multiple times remember the layout of the bridge in the simulator?

The most radical change I saw with McCoy was him knowing how to work the conn during the Kobiyashi Maru.

In the episode "Charlie X", Spock and McCoy went to various bridge stations and began to turn on everything in order to overtax Charlie's powers. Seems to me that McCoy would need to understand how these systems worked before punching buttons at random. I have no problem believing a senior officer such as he was trained in bridge operations.
