Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Despite the fact that the people in charge claimed the Deadpool film was in continuity ( presumably so as not to depress ticket sales ), I have a hard time taking that literally. I mean, Deadpool talks to the camera and the film references Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.

There are times when a franchise just won't admit that something is a reboot, even when it obviously is. That's a thing that happens, or so I've heard.

Same overall continuity, but a different take on the character, so, no, not a reboot.

Well, same-ish. Not only has that continuity been heavily altered through time travel, but it's frequently offered new and contradictory versions of characters established in previous films (Hank McCoy, Moira McTaggert, Emma Frost, Angel, Jubilee, Caliban, etc.), and the Deadpool films don't really concern themselves that much with continuity anyway.

There's nothing contradictory about the franchise's use of Hank, Jubilee, or Caliban, and the Emma Silverfox and Last Stand Moira McTaggart things can be explained by genetic lineage.

*sigh* It's not about whether this or that specific inconsistency can be explained after the fact. Any continuity error can be explained with a little creativity, so that's a trivial and irrelevant issue. The point is that the filmmakers themselves do not feel restricted by past filmmakers' interpretations of the characters. The X-Men film franchise has always been flexible in its treatment of continuity. And the makers of Deadpool in particular really couldn't care less about keeping their films consistent with a specific version of the timeline, because they're making comedy films that freely break the fourth wall and admit it's all just make-believe. Heck, the first film even had a wrecked Helicarrier in it, even though it wasn't in the MCU.

Well in X2 Hank was still human, but in First class he was already Beast

An explanation for that "discrepancy" was introduced in Days of Future Past.

@Christopher, you and I are going to have to agree to disagree on the extent to which the various filmmakers have ignored what others have done previously when it comes to the treatment of characters and continuity within the XMCU.

How about Ryan Reynolds again for GL? Yes it a different continuity, I get the impression that the Deadpool films are reboots and nothing to do with 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' in which he played (a version of) Deadpool, so maybe he could do the same with Green Lantern.
I think I'd take Cruise over Reynolds again, we already got a Ryan Reynolds version of GL and it didn't work. The impression I got with Deadpool was that he did it again because he didn't really get to do what he wanted to do with the character the first time. I haven't seen anything to indicate that was the case with Green Lantern

Yes. Indeed, as I understand it, Reynolds campaigned for years to get the chance to do it again and get it right.

I hope that Christopher McQuarrie does not Direct GL. He is supposed to direct Space Battleship Yamato (StarBlazers) next. :(

A Japanese company already did it, in 2010.

A more detailed close-up of Captain Marvel's suit has popped up:

Note the tiger medallions attaching the cape. Mr. Talky Tawny lives!

It looks like a padded muscle suit, but otherwise not bad.

Even Geoff Johns shit version didn't put tigers on it for no reason. Then again, I'm shocked Johns never turned Tawky Tawny into some monster that ends up eating Mary or something. The costume is still the biggest pile of shit in a modern DC movie (I don't count CG, so the Green Lantern costumes and Cyborg in the DCEU don't get counted or they would be worse). I guess taking your costume design style from the 90s Flash TV Show is probably a good money saver. I suppose they should save money, no use putting resources or talented people on a piece of shit project like the "Shazam" film.

He is not wrong, it does look cheap. I bet it will look way nicer when presented in the lighting it was actually designed for though...

Well, since this is "Shazam" the costume is probably meant to bee seen in the dark alleys that Shazam shakes down people for money if they want his protection. That said, I've seen a superhero costume in a big movie that looked like shit in normal lighting but was somehow saved by different lighting.

Don't forget color filters and other digital tricks.
