Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

As Jon Snow he already has a lot of practice brooding ;)
He would be the shortest Batman ever though, not counting the LEGO one :D
 
The future of the DCEU is starting to look a lot more Whedon-y.

I think WB should keep Zack Snyder around. I don't see why the studio cannot continue using the talents of both directors, along with Patty Jenkins, David Ayer, James Wan and a few others. It's not like Whedon will control the overall franchise. Geoff Johns and Jon Berg are in control. However, there are many DCEU fans who now want Whedon removed from the franchise due to the news regarding the breakup of his marriage.
 
Comic book movies SHOULD feel fun. I mean, DC TV understands this. You may not want the DC Film Universe to be like the MCU, but why not be more like DC TV.

First of all, not all of the DC TV shows are "fun". Even th "fun" ones can be dark and gritty sometimes. And I would never regard Arrowverse's first show, "Arrow", as a "fun" show. There have been complaints about the show's writing in the past year or two. But none of the complaints have been about its gritty tone.

Two, I don't believe that "ALL" comic book movies have to be "fun". Considering that not all comic book titles are "fun", why should the storytelling for such movies and television shows be consistently limited in one style or tone? That does not make sense to me.

I've never seen anything Martin Scorsese has worked on, but it would be extremely difficult to do a worse Joker then Leto's, so if his project does get made it will be interesting, at least.

Its interesting to see Leto returning for those other movies since it seems like even a lot of people who liked the SS movie didn't like him in it. Plus, I would have thought his huge ego and childish, disgusting antics with the SS cast would have lead to him getting replaced or them just not using Joker for awhile. Well, this is the DCEU. The day they admit they messed something up will be the same day pigs start flying under their own power.
 
I just read Deadline's article, and it does not actually say what io9 is claiming it does (that Ayer has left GCS and this Joker/Harley project is its replacement).

In fact, the Deadline article specifies that Ayer is still attached to GCS and that this Joker/Harley project is different from it.

I don't know where io9 got the impression that they did, but it wasn't from the Deadline article they cite.

Huh. You're right. And yet I found articles from Variety and Vulture that also link to that same article that makes the same claim as Io9. Weird.
 
Variety's article makes no mention of any other reporting, at least that I noticed, but does claim that it is "unclear" whether or not this Joker/Harley project is separate from GCS, which is in conflict with Deadline's reporting.
 
Asked for comment on all this, a high-level Warner Brothers executive on the DCEU team replied:

I think I figured out the source of this confusion thanks to ComicBook.Com:
Deadline apparently initially posted an article stating that GCS had been replaced with this Joker/Harley project, only to later update said article with a retraction. However, they didn't place an Update notice in the article, leaving other sites that quickly ran with the original version of the article as sourcing "out of the loop".
 
^ That's not a new rumor; it came out two days ago.

Also, The Batman being a standalone "Elseworlds" project wouldn't have any effect on the DCEU whatsoever.

The general consensus of the online articles I've read is that Reeves probably doesn't mean the Batman film will be in a separate continuity, just that it'll be a self-contained film like Wonder Woman, telling its own independent story within the universe, rather than having a lot of crossover and connective tissue with other DCEU films like BvS did. In other words, it'll be done the way the comics are usually done (or the way the Arrowverse TV shows are done), with the individual series just telling their own stories most of the time and only crossing over occasionally.

That was my reading of it too. However, given the fact that the recently-announced Joker origin movie will apparently take place in a different continuity to the DCEU (and with no Jared Leto) and given the constant rumours about Affleck departing the role, it's not difficult to see why many take a different view.
