Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Didn't watch the movie, I take it?

I've seen Batman v Superman twice so far, one viewing of each cut. The extended edition is slightly better, but still not a good movie and the increased run time for an already long movie kind of cancels out the improvements in the extended edition. Having Diane Lane play both Martha's would definitely have added some entertainment value, even if just for a few seconds.

No trailer on this Super Bowl Sunday, but a new still.

Let's hope the colors stay nice and vibrant for the actual film.

Wow.
I don't even know how to process that. I think he's incredible behind the camera (professionally thinking). Very ambitious.

Wow 3, not a name I would have expected to pop up, especially after the comments he's made in the past. I'm kind of surprised DC would even consider him after he called BvS a piece of shit.
According to IGN, Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Life), Johnathan Levine (Warm Bodies, The Night Before), and Ruben Fliescher (Gangster Squad, Zombieland) are also being considered.
Gibson has now confirmed discussions have taken place.

Well, since SS is the only DCEU movie I've enjoyed, (even if I consider it a terrible SS adaptation, as an action movie I enjoyed it as long as I treated it as a story with totally original characters, which it pretty much was except for the names) I'm happy Ayer is apparently not directing. That said, I can't say I want to see Gibson direct anything, much less a DC movie. The guy is an ass, and I can't say I've found any of his stuff that I've seen particularly impressive.

Then again, I don't find the other choices to be very good either. But, I also don't like Ayer's work but I was still entertained by SS, so who knows. It will be interesting to see if a sequel keeps the tone of the completed original film, or becomes another grimdark DCEU film like Ayer was apparently going for in his cut. I hope its more like the first film but done a bit better.

If you actually read what Mel Gibson said about comic book movies, he was criticizing the genre's tendency to repeat/reboot itself with increasing frequency, not saying that he hates all films in the genre or the genre itself.

For me, it would be interesting to see him direct Suicide Squad 2 largely because it would mean that this particular corner of the DCEU would be shepherded by filmmakers who 'cut their teeth', as it were, making award-winning-type films rather than 'blockbusters'.

He was also critical of the amount of money they cost to make.

"I look at them and scratch my head. I'm really baffled by it. I think there's a lot of waste but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I'd find out different. I don't know. Maybe they do cost that much. I don't know. It seems to me that you could do it for less. If you're spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don't know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on Batman v Superman that they're admitting to? And it's a piece of shit. I'm not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn't wear spandex. So I don't know. Spandex must cost a lot."

But he also said,
"Some are good. Some are kind of funny ... Guardians of the Galaxy. Or the first Iron Man,"
I can see why a more offbeat one like Suicide Squad may potentially appeal to him more than "just another superhero".

In this context that is irrelevant.

I think its relevant in general. For me, I'd probably say the fact that I'd rank his movies, at least as a director and/or writer, from boring at best to repulsive at worst to be a big issue, too. I mean, I think he's repugnant as an individual and I think its relevant to talk about that when discussing someone's work. But even beyond that I think his work is lousy and even if he didn't have a history of being a nutjob I wouldn't want to see him make Suicide Squad 2 purely based on his previous work as a director/writer.
