Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Well, if it ends up happening (which is probably a 50/50 chance with the DCEU the way it is), hopefully it will be good. Also, hopefully it takes its New Gods design inspiration from Jack Kirby's original work, and not just copy whoever did Steppenwolf's shitty design in Justice League.

Not surprised they are doing it as one of their next movies, with hints of Darkseid in Batman v Superman, and Steppenwolf in Justice League it makes sense to go all in with The New Gods movie.

But with this director?

It seems like they're still trying to copy Marvel's successes.

Because this is the same company that told is we're getting Flash in March of this year and Justice League 2 in June of next.

Stuff happens; there's no lessons to be learned here whatsoever because the delays and setbacks were beyond their ability to control; plus, creativity and creative direction changes and evolves.

It's honestly nice to see that they may actually be learning.

Learning what? What exactly are the DCEU suits learning? To make the franchise more like the MCU?

It amazes me that many comic book movie fans have put so much energy in putting down the DCEU . . . again and again and again, while at the same time, put the MCU on a pedestal. It has come to a point that all of this is becoming a broken record.

As far as I'm concerned, Warner Bros. has made one major misstep when the suits used Joss Whedon in some effort to transform "JUSTICE LEAGUE" into "THE AVENGERS". That was stupid. But some of Disney/Marvel's decisions regarding the MCU have not been all that hot to me, especially in the past three years. And that includes taking the third Captain America film and transforming it into an incoherent Avengers/Iron Man film in order to compete with a DCEU movie. However, there are some DCEU fans who act as if "all" MCU movies are bland and formulaic and never stop bashing that franchise. And I'm also getting tired of them.

I'm tired of this stupid rivalry between the MCU and the DCEU. I'm tired of people acting as if this rivalry is such a big deal in their lives. I'm getting tired of reading post after post or encountering video clip after video clip over this rivalry. The only people who are benefiting from all of this are the studios, the production companies and the performers. Otherwise, I see no reason why moviegoers/fans should blindly allow themselves to get pulled into this ridiculous rivalry.

Huh. And here I was actually implying the complete opposite of the wild rant you jumped to.

Learning that they don't have to be like Marvel and announce a whole slate of movies before they're ready to like they originally did years ago. That they actually can be successful doing their own thing. (Plus a New Gods movie sounds awesome and nothing like what Marvel has done. Strange, that...)

But you know. If you want to sound like a broken record and complain again about Marvel vs DC posts while literally turning it into what you seem to hate when that wasn't even the intention. This time it's 100% on you.

I really don't know anything about the New Gods, but (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), aren't they kind of second or third tier DC characters? If so, that does seem like a Marvel-like thing to do, to me. New Gods sound like maybe Guardians of the Galaxy level, perhaps? So WB hires an up and coming director not known for her work in the superhero genre (who also happens to have actually had talks with Marvel about directing BP at one time). This seems like part of the Marvel formula to me.

Now, best thing WB could do is cast the movie with the best actors for the roles, without placing consideration of box office out front, and then backing off and letting DuVernay execute her vision for the movie like they did with Patty Jenkins, and like Marvel has done with it's directors. With WB's track record, they coud do worse than to copy at least this part of the Marvel formula.

I am multicultural -- i like Marvel AND DC.

What i like about the Marvel movies is that they seem like comic books come to life -- the ones I read in the 80's (with Crisis & Secret Wars in the middle of my collecting).

Thing is..i feel like DC characters should feel more "comic booky"...that's why i don't like how they have generally framed the DC F U. I think DC TV (i.e. Berlantiverse) really gets it... that's why there is often positive buzz when they do previews of events or guests (such as the anticipation especially for the 1st season of Flash).

i think the negativity has been hyperbole for sure.... i personally feel the DC FU have sabotaged good & innovative things (such as Martha treating Clark as a special needs child; Jonathan's talk with Clark as a boy) with other stuff (Martha as a grouchy old"get off my lawn" woman or Jonathan's crazt sacrifice).. the darkness in lighting doesn't suit DC...way less than say X-men or Dr. STrange.

The complaints about SUperman... i think Henry Cavill exudes the Superman spirit and a great choice to play him. But like the Samson movie, the writing and to a lesser extent directing, did NOT do the character justice.

The comparisons with Cpatain America for SUperman, for example, i think are fair..both characters are the "goody two shoes" of each...Marvel movies made it work... DC FU missed that aspect.

I WANT the movies to succeed...but it just feels like the leadership with the DC FU doesn't understand or love the material, the way the MCU or even the Raimi films before them understood it (or DC TV).

Marvel taking on 2nd & 3rd tier characters feel like, to me, lthat such risks can be taken because they got the baiscs right. witht he DC FU, it feels more like grasping for straws...but we'll see. My daughter loved A Wrinkle in TIme...hope that can happen again.

I've enjoyed the DCEU movies, but I have to agree that they really don't feel like the comics the same way the MCU and the Arrowverse do. I actually hadn't really noticed it before the post above mine, but I think that is a big part of why even though I like the DCEU the other two come out ahead for me.
