Good evening,
I just started building plastic model kits again after working only digitally for far too long.
This is one of the first kits I have broken out and really started messing with. It went together ok, my kit seemed to have a lot of fit issues. The nacelles didn't want to fit together nicely and required a lot of putty and sanding. Since I haven't done a kit in a long time I decided against being too ambitious and installing any lighting, but once I get some new work under my belt I plan to light up a number of future builds.
So far she is puttied and primed and I have sprayed on some pre-shading (the paint was a little to thin and ran a bit) I will hopefully be putting the first color coats this weekend if the humidity breaks. I plan on using a bunch of tints and powders to weather her up after applying the decals and detail paint.
I have snagged a lot of screengrabs from Trekcore so I can paint the base to hopefully look like Vulcan.
I am also starting to work on the old AMT Galileo II model kit, I am not lighting it either (I'll save that for the new kit due out next year hopefully) but I am doing some (ok maybe a lot of) customizations, adding the overhead light fixture, the navigator display, the two fold out displays, the side mounted computers, detailing the console, adding the recessed area at the front of the nacelles, adding some of the panels on the rear, doing a lot of custom decals, and the structural support under the 'wing' as the plastic holding the nacelles seems a bit flimsy and prone to sagging/bending under holding the weight of the kit.
Anyway, thanks for looking, hopefully now that I have posted these, I'll push myself to make more rapid progress.
Jeff
