Yeah, always assumed it was because Voyager was a smaller ship and crew that The computer didn’t need additional clarification. That and most of the original command crew were dead.
We see that early on not even B’Elanna can’t eject the warp core, because she doesn’t have command level clearance. Turns out to be Chakotay, who’s called commander all through the series but only holds the rank of Lt. CMDR. And Tuvok starts out with 2.5 pips then seems to be reduced in rank to Lt. only to be promoted back to his original rank later lol.

^later on, she does have that authority. She ejects the core all by herself in Day of Honor. So obviously, these things could be changed on Voyager.

That's how that rank works in real life for the Navy. You would only in formal circumstances verbally call him Lt. Cmdr; when in normal conversation, you just call him Cmdr. Just how it works. Kinda like someone may have the rank of Rear Admiral, but when talking to them, you just say Admiral.
Only place it would be wrong is if it showed up written down on screen somewhere as CMDR, because it should have the LT in front of it there...
Well, the title sequence for the first 3 seasons lists Robert Beltran as Commander Chakotay.

Had this discussion before, he’s always referred to as CMDR and everyone assumes he’s the same rank as Riker, but his starfleet insignia shows him as LT CMDR only.
As a former Naval Officer, I can say that in the world of commissioned ranks, in a formal setting or in written form, you always address an individual officer by his appropriate rank. However, in a casual setting or conversation, or in a passing conversation in the third person, it is acceptable and common, to address an individual officer by a shortened version of their rank, and you always use the highest rank when their title is comprised of two or more ranks. i.e: A Lieutenant Commander in a casual setting would be addressed as a Commander, or a Lieutenant Junior Grade would be referred to as a Lieutenant. The same is for all Admirals. In a casual setting, you may address any Admiral (Rear Lower, Rear Upper, and Vice) as just Admiral. You would only use their full rank and title in a formal setting or in a form of offical address.
