Voyager season 6

There was an inside the replicator shot in THOD12?
AkVPNvh.jpg

I'm pretty sure this is suppose to be some vantage point from within? ....and now I've got to rewatch Voyager Conspiracy because I can't recall the shot you're referring to (and I loved that ep anyway).

It's true. So many modern shows and movies rely very heavily on "reveals," plot twists, reversals, slow reveals, endless cliff hangers, and "mystery boxes." They might retain audiences(so does "Days Of Our Lives), but they don't have that same satisfaction that a solid, complete story has, imo.
Yep, you are mucho correct on this... I don't watch a lot of TV, as opposed to film, so I am sort of unaccustomed to the "serial method" of storytelling, but I think that VOY itself got criticized in some arenas for this very thing (e.g. the use of easy, accessible tropes, special effects, etc to hold the viewer) . The fact that this ep is pretty much the polar opposite of that is pretty clever.

Thanks for the pic. In Voyager conspiracy, it's when Seven is unloading her first theory about the photonic fleas, and how they got into the ship. The camera follows the story going through conduits and the like.

OK, I recall that now... actually there have been a number of eps with a shot from within the guts of the ship. One of the last 3-4 eps I watched had a scene with Chak and B'Elanna looking into something and this angle was used.
I like the view coming out of the replicator in the foreground contrasted against Chak and Janeway in the background talking about the ship repairs...

Also that shot in I think "Drone" when the droneis looking at Seven et al from within the ... not sure what. Regeneration unit? Hmmm... maybe this concept is not as unique to this ep as I once thought. :p

I was curious more as to why you found it boring.
Couldn't say really. When I first saw it, at the end I felt ... yawn. Ever since I've always felt this way no matter how many times I have rewatched the show. I think it might have something to do with the fact that we don't know if this whole thing happened or Neelix just made it up ... But we do see that something happened we just don't know what it is. This kind of vague story-telling belongs to art films rather than to sci-fi in my book. So I always think it's a pointless episode. And as for MUSE, I so much agree with this:

I just prefer the episodes when our heroes are out in space or on the ship

Couldn't have said better myself. MUSE actually reminds me of NEMESIS (too much focus on one character without it being a particularly interesting ep), just that element of darkness is not there that's very much NEMESIS's own. But other than that ... neither of the two eps is my fav.

Anyway, you are about to start Season 7 and I really love every single ep of that season! Here's the much bashed UNIMATRIX ZERO to start with ...
Annika Hansen without the implants
, which is a superexciting ep in my book ... but then which Borg ep isn't? :)

Do you mean Nemesis the episode, or Nemesis the movie?

I have finished season 6! I am now approximately 85% of the way through VOY, which makes me a little sad because it will end soon, but I also would like to be finished by the end of the year (which is probable). Going at a pretty comfortable pace it'll likely take me ~7 months to have watched the entire series... just planning for a future rewatch (also probable). ;)

Unimatrix Zero was pretty cool, not my favorite Seven ep, but it was good (I'm not sure how I feel about her "relationship" with Axum, but it may have been needed to advance Seven's character a little more rigorously in this area). And maybe it wasn't completely a "Seven ep" since there was a fair amount going on otherwise. So, one detail about this ep: when Seven was regenerating and the Doc said she never achieved REM sleep, so UZ couldn't have been a dream... well, Seven appeared to actually be in REM sleep (twice during the ep) per how most humans appear when they achieve this level of sleep. This is a trivial point though. The Doc's "ulterior motives" as they are towards Seven were also on display again, even though he did encourage her to pursue her experience with Axum. That's not a critical point, just something I don't care for in the Doc's personality, although it does make him more "human".

I guess I have technically started season 7 since I watched UZ2 already... I'll try to restrain myself from a new thread for a few days though (and for no logical reason that I can think of).

Looking ahead to season 7:

In my opinion, it's a very good season, with some stand out episodes. Brannon Braga has left as showrunner to create Star Trek: Enterprise, and Kenneth Biller has stepped in to become the new head writer. He's been on the writing staff since season 1, writing the episode Faces. He also wrote Initiations, Lifesigns, Worst Case Scenario, Extreme Risk, and many others. Brannon Braga is largely absent from Season 7. He only wrote "Human Error." He also contributed to the finale.
Joe Menosky(who is currently a writer on Star Trek: Discovery) left the Voyager team after season 6( :( ). His last sole credit was season 6's "Muse." Bryan Fuller, who was very prominent the last few seasons, returns twice, writing the two parter's
Flesh and Blood part I & II, and Workforce part I & II And lastly, a pair of young writer's named Mike Sussman and Phyllis Strong would get to shine a lot in season 7. They went on to write many(and many of the most highly praised) episodes of
Star Trek: Enterprise.
The season focuses a good deal on Tom & B'elanna, and in some unexpected ways, another crew member's love life. Also, the Doctor's continuing quest to be untrustworthy(ahem* I mean "become a person")

Some of my personal top picks from S7 are:
Imperfection- A crisis! A medical crisis!
Repression- not a very highly praised episode, but I've always loved it. Bring on the leather!
Critical Care- I don't know what to say without spoilers
Inside Man- Back to headquarters for some fun with Broccali, and a species that Trekkie's loathe. Good ep!
Body & Soul- It's good
Flesh and Blood- This mutinous crewmember really needs to get more than a slap on the wrist
Shattered- One of my absolute favorites of S7! Ever heard of a clip show? Yeah, this ain't that. You WILL like this.
Lineage- Deep character study, questioning ethics, or breaking them?
Prophecy- To Cling, or not to Cling.
The Void- It's like the Void(The first Void), but not really.
Workforce- It's good, and 2 hours long!
Human Error- It's always hard to watch someone descend into a bad habit, but very good story.
Author, Author- Top pick of the show!
Natural Law- Don't touch the natives! they dont wear deoderant
Homestead- You will cry
Renaissance Man- Adventure, suspense, and Mutiny again?!
Endgame- I don't care what anyone says, I adore the finale. It really feels like a movie. very cinematic.

Okay, that's a lot. There were only a few I didn't feel guilty about leaving out.

Wow, thanks for all the notes, Prax. As opposed to the past couple of seasons (mostly 4 & 5) I don't think I've previously seen any of the eps in s7. I sort of have a general, vague gist for how the series ends, but I have no idea about any of the details, so I'm really looking forward to this. I'm especially curious about what happens with Tom and B'Elanna, as well as Seven of course. ;)

Do you mean Nemesis the episode, or Nemesis the movie?
The episode, of course. Like I've mentioned I don't really like TNG and I don't really know it. Of the NEMESIS movie my only memory is that there was a younger version of Picard who was trying to kill the older version ... or something similar. But I don't remember anything beyond this. Of the TNG movies, FIRSCT CONTACT was really good (in no small part because of the music). I like the the movies with the new Kirk, they are very exciting (not to mention those blue eyes ...).

Anyway, I think that in MUSE just like in NEMESIS, the Chakotay-centered episode, there is too much focus on one character.

And I wish they'd made a VOY movie. With the Borg as the main enemy (imagine it with today's CGI :klingon:). I would also appreciate a DS9 movie.

I quite like your analysis of season 7, with the restriction that I think ENDGAME was bad. This ... was not the Janeway that I had loved throughout the show. I could always relate to her ...except in ENDGAME.

Captain Janeway or Admiral Janeway?
Anyways, I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie, but I'm the opposite. I really liked the episode Nemesis, especially the main guest actor. Likewise with Muse(imo). There is a Star Trek episode I don't really care for, though. It's called "The Muse."

I know that people like to think of them as two different Janeways but to me they are one and the same ... Hence the disappointment. It's easy to blame the Admiral, of course ... but to me, the Captain and the Admiral are the same person.

As for THE MUSE on DS9, I'm fine with that. Not a particular fav of mine but since there are quite a few eps on DS9 that I find boring, that one wasn't too bad for me. I guess VOY's MUSE is not so much liked by me because VOY is high quality throughout and I feel that with these one-character shows the thing I love most about the show is lost or even if not entirely lost, then it is shoved into the background for 45 minutes.

For me unfortunately there are a lot of Trek eps I don't like (most of TNG, probably TOS and definitely every single episode of that huge boredom called ENT), which leaves me with super exciting and enjoyable VOY and less exciting and less enjoyable but still watchable DS9. (I know nothing about DSC but since it won't be available in Hungarian for quite a long time, I'm not interested, at least not yet. Although I would genuinely be surprised if I managed to get to like a show in which the main villains are the Klingons. I might have mentioned the word "boring", I guess ...).

And as regards episode and feature film titles, the creators (whoever they were) could have put a little more energy into not getting us confused with VOY's MUSE and DS9's THE MUSE and VOY's NEMESIS and the feature film called NEMESIS and the like. I have zero talent for writing so I have no right to criticize them, of course but you'd think that such misleading mistakes would merit more attention from TPTB ... :klingon::klingon::klingon:

And "First Contact", and "First Cointact." Or how about "The Next Generation," and "Generations"?

You seem to speak perfect English. Surely you aren't using a translator.

Blushing ... Truth be told I am an English teacher ... :guffaw:
But thanks for the compliment. However, there's still a lot to learn. When you guys start using colloquial expressions on these fora, I sometimes find it difficult not to lose you ... :D But I'm learning a lot, especially from @cosmic mouse . Thanks, Mouse! :D

So obviously there are a lot of things the creators could have paid attention to ... Not that those things bother me (like the fluctuating number of the crew for example) but a little more attention to detail occasionally wouldn't have gone amiss ... :brickwall:

Season 6 was a massive disappointment for me after a pretty decent Season 5.

The only episodes I liked from this season:

Equinox pt 2
Barge of the Dead
Pathfinder
Memorial
Child's Play
Muse

I'm doing a rewatch of voyager at the moment and I think season 3 is probably my favourite season followed by season 5 and Season 2. My favourite episode is probably Distant Origin.

I'm trying to hold off ranking the seasons until I'm finished (since this is my initial watch of this series), but I agree on Distant Origin and season 3 overall. Before I saw Scorpion and Counterpoint, Distant Origin was my favorite overall ep. Plus I had a really good time with Future's End, even though there wasn't a lot of depth to it.

I've watched each season many times over the years and my ratings tend to change. For example I used to really like season 4 but for some reason on this watch through I've found it a bit of a chore. Which season are you currently up to?

I'm up season 7... Shattered, which I haven't seen yet, but looking forward to it. I saw the Scorpion two-parter when it originally aired back in the 90s, and when I rewatched that episode earlier this year (and subsequently a few other random season 4-5 eps) it made me want to watch the entire series. It'll have taken me about 7 months by the time I finish.
