Viper's miscellaneous Star Trek projects

Wow, how did I miss this whole freaking thread?! Amazing work here. Oh, @Viper, you may have picked up a like or ten this morning  .

I actually had like 50 notifications, lol. I'm glad you like it :D

So, can't believe I'm starting another thing, but I need all this for a shot I want to do. These are the Utopia Planitia stations. I'm going to try and finish the shuttle model tonight, but yesterday I was super tired, so wanted to work on something light.

Funny you mention that. I kinda of dropped that old concept. I tried to make it work but it always felt clunky. I even tried radically different designs but nothing really felt right.

The Rapid Response/Recon version at scifi-meshes is quite lean. A good Stargazer alternative

...so I started building a freakin’ space station.

:wtf: ;)

Hah, I won't be doing the same level of detail as my other stuff. Just need it for a shot where it'll be in the distance :)

Oh, right. I forgot to post that here. I worked on these two concepts earlier this year while trying to salvage that cargo ship idea.
The first one is this heavy cruiser type ship.

The second is this long range, recon, rapid response vessel. I actually like this one quite a bit and might bring it to completion at some point.

Hmm. I like the fast ship; reminds me of the "Bullet" and Fast cruisers from the SFB universe.
The heavy cruiser looks like a variation on the XCA ships from Starfleet Command.
Either one would be a pretty unique project to see come to life. You have a great grasp on the TMP aesthetic; I'd like to see either of these get fleshed out.

So, might as well give an update here. Been a while. As always, still chugging along on my projects, just had a lot happen with my life the past 4 months. First it was possibility of being out of a job, then knowing I would have a job but would be for a new client, and then I got a new offer, so had to scramble to finish everything on the old job so I could go to the new one with a clear conscience. It has been a long journey.

I decided to finish off the TOS Connie recently. Pretty close to done, just a few details left. Most of it is textured already.

And here's a fancy shot:

Stunning work brother.
Sorry about RL...to put it lightly, it can get in the way... and not in a good way either. I have lost my job and been out of work for over 2yrs now. Still trying to keep up the good fight though. Stay well, and amazing update sir!

The Enterprise is a beautiful lady and we all love her! You’ve done her justice, Viper. :bolian:

And p.s., glad to hear you’re still employed, even if it’s for a new client. I’ve had my own drama the past six months (haven’t we all!), so the need for a break is something I think we can all understand and sympathize with. LLAP!

p.s., Can you tell us anything about how you achieved the flares? The subtle rainbows are quite lovely. :mallory:

Man, that's rough. I hope things get better for you soon. Keep doing your art though, I find it a great way to escape my problems, even if for a couple of hours.

Thanks very much sir. Your Connie is also a thing of beauty. It wasn't as much of a break as I just didn't have time to breathe, heh. Anyway, things are settled now and the new job is totally in my wheelhouse so no surprises.

As for the flares, they are all part of the glare tools on Vray. Just tweaking it to get the results I want. Which renderer do you use again?

Also, I think I buried the lead a bit, heh. I also did this render of the Akula last week:

A larger version and a ton more shots of her in my artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/0n8VJ5

My render engine is Octane, or at least it was before I took my unscheduled break. And holy Great Bird of the Galaxy, you sure did bury the lede! This is a perfect example of how a great model like your Akula goes up to the next level when it's properly lit and rendered, with just the right amount of bloom coming off the hull to help "sell" the shot. Just lovely.

I don't know if it was intentional or accidental, but I love how the three floodlights illuminating that forward shuttlebay echo the three windows (deflectors? sensors?) on the bow of the TOS Enterprise.

Ah, I am not familiar with Octane's glare controls or won't be able to say if it's possible to do the same  And thanks!

Hah! Totally by accident  I just wanted to have something there to highlight the shuttle bay.

Beautiful! The Enterprise renders came out very warm and inviting; love it! But your Akula class render...what a lovely balance of light and shadow and contrast and all that; love it!

Nice effort. It would work on screen.

Hey Viper is there an Andy Whorl avatar filter? I've seen quire a few here, yours included.
