Victory of the Daleks - 65 minutes (slight spoilers)

I'll take the 65 minute episodes if it means the season can feel a bit longer than 13 episodes.

The Eleventh Hour- 65

Victory of the Daleks 65

Those two give us an extra 40 minutes which could be a 14 episode

I'm fine with it if the episodes need the extra length. Watched Waters of Mars again last night and it does still feel like a 45 minute episode that's been stretttchhhheddd!

65 minutes in a Moff episode can only mean more extra goodness that couldn't be possibly be left out.

However in other countries this will likely be cut.

The Doctor has been summoned by an old friend, but in the Cabinet War Rooms far below the streets of blitz-torn London, it's his oldest enemy he finds waiting for him, as the time-travelling adventures continue. The Daleks are back – but can Winston Churchill be in league with them?
Moff does know the show is meant to be 45 minutes right?

he better, if he wants to keep the budget straight. I mean, 13x an extra 20 minutes is about five more episodes' worth over the season! A hell of a lot of time and money. Either that or he's trying to prematurely age Matt Smith to the age of Doctor he wanted, by means of overwork!

Fortunately, BBC America has been pretty good about altering the traditional one-hour timeslot for the longer Doctor Who episodes rather than cutting the episode itself. I hope they continue to do so, even when Series 5 enters repeats...I can remember BBCA chopping up the end of Journey's End in a rerun by completely cutting Wilf's last speech to the Doctor in the rain and the moment of reflection the Doctor has inside the TARDIS thereafter...kinda killed the emotional impact of the end of the episode.

This is good news. I've high hopes for this episode. Far more excited for this than any of the others.

Aside from the first episode, this is the one I'm looking forward to the most so I'm happy to hear there'll be an extra 20 minutes.

I think it's good news, to me it shows that the Beeb have a lot of faith in the new production team.

And, of course, an extra 20-25 mins of unexpected Who!

I have a difficult time believing that Gatiss would so overwrite his script that it would come it longer than forty-five minutes. Gatiss is a professional; he knows the parameters of a Doctor Who slot. And I simply cannot imagine that he would (or could) write an uneditable script that needs a 65-minute running time.

not to mention the fact that 65 minutes is such a random time, could they really not have cut it down to a simple 60, I know this is a Dalek episode but its not the finale

No, if it *is* that length (which remains to be seen - it may be that whoever wrote the BBC PR just used the one for this week as a template and forgot to change the timings) it'll have been commissioned and planned as that length.

Personally I'm just glad they're keeping it to one, consise episode. In the past, you'd usually expect a story like this (WWII! And Daleks!!) to be drawn out over a huge "epic" two-parter.

Even with a new creative team, I'm not sure I'd want to see the Daleks that much again.

^^

Thats what i was expecting, like th god awful Daleks in Manhatten. That couldve easily been one 45 minute episode, but it was dragged out so much that it became shitter by the minute, then the Dalek/Human hybrid appeared and fucking saved us all. :guffaw::lol:
