Variety: 'Star Trek' moved from Christmas '08 to May '09

Well at least they didn't say anything about shuffling Indy around. Not that they could if they wanted to. Say what you want about Lucas, nobody tells the man what to do.

GL is definitely the one calling the shots there.

I wonder how well Angels and Demons will do considering The Da Vinci Code was such as colassel piece of shit.

Paramount's stupidity knows no bounds. They have opened up Star Trek's coffin so they can drive another stake into its chest.

After A&D, Night at the Museum 2 comes out on May 22, which will likely do well. May 29 is still free, so I can see Star Trek getting that date.

The Variety article states the ST release date is set for May 8, 2009
Pfft, you expected me to actually read the article?

:o

No...that's what I'm here for! ;)

To quote another franchise...'It was if a thousand voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.' Oh, and what am I feeling about this? :klingon: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :klingon: :censored: But I'm okay! It'll give me time to revisit the entire Star Trek library on DVD. I'm Currently on Enterprise Season 3.

All fretts aside, i still think it'll do quite well, he hype is already huge and it's only gonna get bigger. I guess we have nothing to worry about. I hope!!!

I hope it does well too. It's difficult to say though...as popular as Star Trek is, only one of the films grossed over $100 million dollars. I wonder just how many new people will come along with a re-imagining.

Well, that makes the teaser non-canon.

Use this time wisely, Abrams. Change the proportions of the nacelles.

It is your top priority.

But another 5 months? Very disappointing.

Well, the teaser trailer did say "Under Construction" and we all know big construction projects are never on time. :)

Maybe they should add more welders.

I do wonder if they'll re-edit the teaser in the next couple of days and put it up on the official site with the new date.

Hey, I just thought of something. The writer's strike just ended. Think this has any reason for it? Perhaps re-writing a few key scenes?

How the :censored: long could it take to do a few rewrites? That takes MINUTES, not MONTHS.

Speaking of the overused movie lines thread:

"I have a bad feeling about this." :(

I say, write a whole damn sequel and film it with this extra time.

It's the *least* Abrams owes us for this heinous and unforgivable delay.

Did they think of us? Where was *I* when the marketing whiz kids opted for a Summer '09 release?

My voice had a right to be heard in the halls of Trek HQ.

I promise you this, Abrams - Brad Grey will be hearing from me. Yes - me, personally.

Did no one bother to read the first post? Its not rewrites. Due to the Strike Paramount needs to adjust its schedule.

^ Guys, check the link to the Hollywood Reporter article I posted earlier in the thread. Paramount moved a bunch of films around to fill out their 2009 slate because of the strike. They specifically said the reason for the move had nothing to do with rewrites.

Heh!
Now that I've had the opportunity to calm down (Thanks, Polaris. :bolian:). I still think this is a really bad idea.
A December release would have allowed Star Trek to hold the #1 place at the box office for a couple of weeks during January (It was possible). A May release means that Star Trek will hold the #1 spot for, at most, two weeks. I don't see how a studio suit thought this could ever be a good idea. However, I actually have a brain and know how to use it.

I am curious how this new release date will effect the international release dates.

I hope the :censored:ing writers are happy about that shit. :(

Them too. I shall be writing a very curt letter to each member of the WGA for this most... most appalling situation that they've fashioned. Harlan, I hope you're happy.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I'll be able to afford all the shiny new Star Trek stuff I wouldn't be able to cause of the holidays. Plus, they'll get to longer promotions. I say start the merchendising in January. I still think Character teaser posters are the way to go. Start with Kirk, and end with Uhura. Have phrases like Courage, Skill, Honor above each character, and the Enterprise above them.

There is part of me that is disappointed about this. But there are so many other movies I am looking forward to this year, and far more, that I don't really care. The 2009 release schedule was very dull before this. Also the people in this forum needed a billionth thing to whine about...because the old reasons have been getting stale...

Fuck Paramount! They ruined Christmas! This is kinda like hoping Santa Claus brings you an XBox 360 but instead he just drops your jammies and sodomizes you! BAD SANTA! BAD!

What he said, but without the sodomy.

But, everybody likes sodomy!

The film didn't test well. It's being pushed back to add more sodomy.

According to my calculations, if we each write 24'108 individual, hand-written letters to Paramount and send them en mass at the end of February, we can convince Paramount to return Trek XI to it's original Xmas '08 release.

I am currently up to letter #4 - and the coffee's going to be a brewin' all night.
