Why Jack at all, then?
Go 50 years forward and new crew, ship, and races, next generation style.

Ugh, He's Kelvin Kirk with out the charm.Jack definitely. He's the replacement for JLP, so the story can continue without Patrick.

I didn't notice any charm or chemistry. I'm sure the guy is a fine actor, but there was nothing on the page. He's got the charm. Good chemistry with Jeri. He brings the levity that plays against her more serious delivery. It's a classic dynamic.
I agree with the similarities to Kelvin Kirk.

Please, dont make me watch PIC3 again. Not even in small doses.I noticed his scenes were pretty well received by reviewers. He's very much a Kirk/Tom Paris type and you need that when you have such a stoic Captain.
Theres potential here for playful chemistry;
Though honestly (and this is just a theory, not inside baseball), if Matalas, Monfette and the others pen Legacy, Jack will probably be the narrative focus and lead. It's Picard S4, but without JLP. Instead you have his 'legacy' driving the story forward.
I'm not one who wants a Legacy series. I wouldn't object to it. I just have a strong suspicion it's going to be Jack's show, as much as Discovery was Burnham's journey.
He's the only Nepo that's inevitable.
Like Thanos? He's the only Nepo that's inevitable.
It's ok. Discovery will be on soon. Please, dont make me watch PIC3 again. Not even in small doses.
The terms "memberberry" and "fanwank" are dismissive and rude.
What would be a better term?I think what frustrates me is the term "memberberry" is often applied and used in a way that completely misses the original point that the South Park creators were going for when they came up with it, along with how snide and dismissive the people who use it are. It's gotten to the point that the second I see someone use it I discount their argument pretty much immediately.
What would be a better term?
Call backs. What would be a better term?
Enlighten me, please. Since I did not watch South Park I am unfamiliar as to the proper usage of the "memberberry" term.Any one that is used correctly.
Sure, but those are just tools. Some work, and some don't. It's the case for all shows.Call backs.
True. But it's a neutral term. No judgement.ure, but those are just tools. Some work, and some don't. It's the case for all shows.
Right. Memberberry feels like it's a reference for that most inexplicable of slang terms for the penis.True. But it's a neutral term. No judgement.![]()
I always ask for a more precise, less slang, term.Right. Memberberry feels like it's a reference for that most inexplicable of slang terms for the penis.
Good point and appropriate term.True. But it's a neutral term. No judgement.![]()

Good point and appropriate term.
To me, I want these call backs to feel organic to the story, not inserted for the sake of it, like tribbles.
Dry, dull, mystery box character who behaves criminally but treated as a hero.
Simply put, as a leading man he's an untrustworthy scoundrel with no sign of remorse. Be like Garak as a lead.
But, good chemistry, by all means, cast him. I'm sure I'll forgot all about his past.
So, a call back to TNG?I just struggle with what all anyone wants anymore is call backs and family members. The universe is a big place, surely they can plot a new course with new characters?
