Spoilers Variety about the future of Star Trek

Action figures aside now, it's just my own opinion here, but while there are now more Trek shows in production that there ever has been, it all exists in a vacuum on Paramount+ and really isn't noticed outside the existing fandom. It's definitely still big in geek culture, but It could very well be that to the rest of the world, there really hasn't been a new Star Trek series since "that one with the old bald guy."

I had the impression that Discovery was doing quite well on Netflix in Australia. I also saw quite a bit of advertising for Picard, which was on Amazon. Now that the series are locked behind P+, they’re definitely off the radar.

All I want for toys is for Lego to get the Star Trek license.

I would buy... all of it. For whatever price they want.

There's a LEGO knockoff outta Germany that has the license to make Trek kits. They actually look pretty good and I've considered picking up a few of them.

I've seen them but it's not the same. They look pretty good, but I want Lego.

The downside to Lego Star Trek would be most of the minifigs would be pretty boring. Although I would love to see what they do with the headpieces for Klingons.

i'm guessing he was in talks with Marvel for a while and had this lined up, which might be why despite Alex Kurtzman's enthusiasm about what Matalas brought to the table, Legacy didn't get the go ahead.

Or maybe wholesale migrating Berman-era Trek into the 25th century is not necessarily a good idea?

There are certain aspects of Berman-era Trek that should stay back in the nineties (women reduced to being help mates for the guys, invisible LGBTQ+ community).

Personally, I think Nemesis should've been the end of TNG. Bringing back Data and throwing the Picard S1 cast over the side left a bad taste in my mouth.

I agree with you on this. While I love Jeri Ryan, Legacy would very much be another nostalgia fest. If we do get a 25th century series I would want new characters with no ties to anything from 90's trek

I'd like to see Seven skippering the E-G. How does she interact with the young crew? How does she go from spending the bulk of her career as a loner to being placed in command of a crew of 500 people?

How many Captains have had her shady past?

Seven is the epitome of Berman-era Trek, so...

Maybe the 25th century just isn't all that interesting a place. The future of Trek is mainly pre-TNG.

Yes and no ...

She's not what she was on Voyager. She's evolved far beyond Voyager.

23rd-century Trek can only be rebooted so many times before it bumps into TOS.

I'd love to see a 25th century Captain Seven series go ahead even without Terry Matalas at the helm. Especially without Terry Matalas. I'm sure the guy was just attempting to continue the tone that Picard s1 had already established, but s3 was trying so hard to be grown up and edgy that it felt childish a lot of the time.

I'd be fine with a Seven-centric series, just not Legacy.

The problem is, the ending of Pic doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room without having to slather on the exposition.

I don’t think they care about bumping into or running over TOS if it makes for a good story.

Legacy has always felt to me like a show that would have trouble pleasing everybody. Either there would be too many references to the past (“OMG its Admiral Janeway and General Kira”) or too few (“I can’t believe we didn’t see Captain Harry Kim with his helmsman Miral Paris, damn you Matalas”).

I’d much rather see a show set 75-80 years post Picard S3 with an all new crew that has little to no ties to the past. Sort of a TNG redux.
