I think Saavik would have worked in the Valaris role if we had seen more of her in IV & V where she could have shown differences of opinion. Something to hang the change of character on.

That's true, though. They should have brought the Romulan/Vulcan conflict and Saavik's background up more for her arc to really work. Not necessarily in V but before. I sometimes forget that the books are not really included in what the general audience knows about the character.

Happens to me all the time. I think of a 'well, they did this' or 'they followed up on this' and after a moment realize 'oh yeah, that was the novels, not onscreen.'

I'm the same way. What's really weird is there are actually visuals I have in my mind that only ever happened in the books. I'm not even talking comics here, I mean real picturesless novel.

Same here. Sometimes I'll be picturing a specific scene and can't remember what episode it's from. Then realize it's actually from a novel, even though I have a visual of it in my memory.
