USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I dig it so far. It's not brilliant, as it splits the difference between faithful-ish update and full on DSC style, so it lacks a coherent design ethos, but was anyone expecting anything else? That's exactly the same way they approached the exterior. But just because it's not brilliant doesn't mean it's not pretty good! Very few things are brilliant. Unless some of you saw some footage I've missed, there's more than half of the bridge we haven't seen, so I'll hold my warp-horses until we see more.

I can't believe all this heated debate over one screenshot from a split-second on the promo.

The bridge looks ace. It's got actual Burke chairs! The Enterprise looks ace. Pike is awesome. Number One still doesn't have a name. All is well.

Can't wait to see it on Friday.

I'm rather sorry for that last bit - seems the writers are utter cowards for not daring to come up with a name, even when it makes no sense whatsoever for Pike not to use a name.

So, at the conclusion of last week's story, Pike assumes they can "rendezvous" with his old ship, and nobody lifts an eyebrow. Obviously, the audience missed the dispatch informing our heroes that the Enterprise again is up and running (and has received a pretty bridge refit ). But did most of the heroes miss that, too? Pike is itching to go places, but he's stuck with a ship he can't take places lest Control gain access to her - should it not be a massive plot point that Pike now has another ship at his disposal? Something for the heroes to heatedly debate between themselves, certainly.

Hmm, the bridge looks Alot bigger than the Tos one..
The Captains chair isn't attached to the helm/nav consoule, I mean Shater could have rested his feet on the astrogator.. where here, he seems like 5 ft back from the station. and of course the Ultra big HD Screen instade of the 32 incher on the original..
the details are nice. I have no problem with a visual upgrade of TOS stuff, just keep the spirit

Back to the discussion: was anyone else surprised (and disappointed) that they showed the bridge in the preview? I was hoping for a big suspenseful reveal next week. Then again, we got the same nonchalant introduction to the D-7 this week.

Producers just don't think that stuff is important to fans.

. Discovery almost certainly has a smaller audience than any prior Trek show, and it's almost certainly close to the number of people who will watch anything at all with "Star Trek" in the name and pay for the privilege.

In your mind perhaps. That, however, does not match up at all with the reality that CBS greenlighting 3 additional series based on its first year success. So you are almost certainly wrong in your assertions.

As for someone like me, who grew up on TOS, if this show had offered the standards of the first two seasons of every Star Trek series since TOS, I wouldn't be watching it even if it was offered for free, just as I quickly stopped watching them until, at least in TNG and DS9's cases they became watchable..Branding has nothing to do with what this 40+ year Star Trek fan watches.

These producers most certainly do! They keep things tightly under wraps if it will have a serious impact (Enterprise in S1 finale, Spock in S2, etc...). Heck, they made a huge deal about "a set" (THAT set) that they absolutely couldn't show us, but by golly, it was AWESOME, and if only I could turn my camera around, but I'd be fired...!

So, yes, the producers totally know the impact the bridge reveal will have. Given the build-up to it, that makes the sneak peak very out of character. Sort of like when an ad for Into Darkness showed a viewscreen tracking the flight to the Vengeance that was clearly labeled "Kirk" and "Khan".

Unless she didn't personally work on it, but that would be odd if true.

So why do we have an "insider" on this very forum who has been spewing relatively accurate production information, who hasn't been forced to "cease and desist"
I get the impression that "yeah, let's not spoil it ourselves" but if someone else spoils it, they are like "whatever". Not apathy exactly, but not "we must protect the plot at all costs". I mean, hell, looks like no actors from MCU have even seen the full Avengers Endgame movie yet so as not accidentally spoil it. That's dedication on MCU producers part. Of course I may be holding up Star Trek producers to too high a pedestal.

In a way, I'd actually prefer if they kept her not having a name going as a Running Gag.

Kind of like how we always heard about how Morn never shuts up.

Give the leaker's couching and cautious approach it either isn't enough to flag or minor enough that it is a balance point between these two.
