USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

There's the Daedalus-class which we do know existed in canon and had been decommissioned and removed from Starfleet by 2196, but since the only onscreen appearance of them was as a model in Sisko's office on DS9 I understand why you didn't use an image of one.

The Deadalus is exactly the ship I'd want to see. Madkoifish's version is a thing of divine beauty:

We've been through this before. The entire bottom of the Shepard saucer looks like much of the top of the Walker.
No. Just the spine, and even then it looks SIMILAR to the Walker (we haven't seen nearly enough of it to say it's identical. And that's the only unique feature the two of them MIGHT share; the deflector dish is (deliberately) common to at least four other ships.

The pylons are arranged differently
And are longer, at different shape, have different details, lack the "pods" in the middle of the strut, lack the "double wing" at the secondary hull, and attach to the ship in a different location which, on the Shepard, also contains additional structural details that the Walker lacks.

the bridge is just a flattened version of the Walker's
Except it lacks turbolift stations, or the indentation on either side of the windows (and this is completely circular).

No one's saying both ships aren't distinct and pretty. They just have a lot in common, is all.
To the extent that ANY two starships have a lot in common, sure.

But at least this is progress; three weeks ago you were claiming that the Shepard was literally a Walker flipped upside down.

I wish they had done the bottom of the Shepard saucer differently.
Considering we've never actually SEEN the bottom of the Shepard in any detail, this is an odd thing to wish. I'm waiting for my Eaglemoss model to arrive in the mail and then I'll know for sure.

That TOS/DIS hybrid bridge is quite lovely. Not a fan of the dark lighting but with some hints of white and red and it would be smashing.
Pike's bridge didn't have the red trim yet in "The Cage." We don't know when it was added, but I think it would fit the look of Discovery a lot better (and look more "modern") with little to no red.

It's not identical, no.

Details. I'm saying that in general they look similar, just upwards instead of downwards. Of course they made other, major changes to the ship.

Except it lacks turbolift stations

Now you're just being contrarian.

I never said it was literally that.

Again you're just being contrarian, having to disagree with every single thing I say. We've seen enough of the bottom of the ship for me to know that It looks odd, and too similar to the Walker. I noticed it immediately in the battle in episode 2, saying "oh, what a cool... oh, kitbash."

I don't think if they will use the Cage from a visual standpoint. With the new Enterprise having TOS glowing bussard domes rather than The Cage's painted red domes with a spike coming out of them. But yes, see what you mean. :)

They shouldn't have flipped the saucer over when they raised the nacelles. The chamfer on the edge being flipped the other way really makes it look like the Shenzhou flipped upside down, even if it strictly speaking isn't.

yeah I remember some confusion when one of the trailers showed the Karala, people were thinking it was the Shenzhou

Specifically that bottom shot in my post was used in trailers.

The images I posted of the Republic came from google search. Sorry for the small size, by the way....cubeupload had been working great for a while for image hosting but for the past couple of days I have not even been able to access the site for some reason. Tried an alternative and that wasn't all that great.

I think the Republic is an interesting design. Could use some tweaking here and there, but it fits in well with pre-TOS, from the perspective of TOS. Would it have been better than Discovery? That can be debated.

That bridge is quite nice. I, too, would prefer if it was not so dark. (Seems like they go to one extreme or the other. I thought the Abramsbridge was way too white and bright.) Love that panoramic viewscreen. I assume that for 'video' transmissions they would just use a center portion.

I'm still looking at Ricky Wallace's USS Constellation and except for nacelle end caps, shuttle bay, and some saucer detail, he pretty much nailed the Discoprise 8 years ago. The shorter neck, angled pylons, etc....wonder if someone saw his work and was inspired.

I do not see TOS ship designs as"silly" any more than from TNG-DS9-VOY-ENT. Maybe dated but that is subjective.
The Discoprise might be silly with it's design elements from the past, future, and JJverse.
I don't see any starship design from the shows as silly. I might question the functionality (looking at you Oberth) but Discoprise certainly isn't one of those.

Yeah, beyond the things that make the Walker recogniseable, they have nothing in common.

Anyway, here's an update to my earlier collage. I've removed the 1701-F for the Saber class and updated a few pictures. The "chronological" order of the designs is still my interpretation based on what I see, regardless of behind-the-scenes info, so long as it doesn't contradict on-screen canon.

A beautiful collage. The only (minor) nits I could pick: The Defiant could go before the Akira (we certainly saw it first) and the Olympic class is potentially 20-30 years in the future vs. TNG, so could easily go last.
