USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

We do know it had at least 800 people aboard at the time of the Narada incident. That IS a pretty big crew complement for an early 23rd century Starfleet vessel so maybe it did have colonization duties that the 2009 film never mentioned onscreen.
Especially compared to the Discovery herself, which is even bigger but has a crew of only 130:wtf:

203 would be a good canonical tip of the hat. Or even a smidge above that as in the space of three and a half additional years the Enterprise could have taken on a few more crewmembers as onboard equipment and storage space were removed to make way for extra crew quarters.

I'd disregard the 200 number. It was from the abandoned pilot, a lot of things were changed from that. It's like the lasers. Or if we need to accept it, then perhaps it was just due with some temporary crew shortage.

For one, they got rid of that bigass cannon! That should free up a section for crew quarters! And the corridor ceilings were lowered, so it doesn't look like the Captain is walking through a church to get to his quarters past Frankie and Annette!

The funny thing is that the corridors in "The Cage" look more spacious and luxurious than they'd appear after Kirk took command. The color pallette of the inside of the Enterprise is also more in line with, say, the NX-01 or even later Federation starships after TOS.

As well as the crew accommodations, at least from what we saw of Pike's cabin. He could have hosted American Bandstand in there! Plus he had that cool console TV!

And a window directly above his bed. Even Kirk didn't have that, and the one window he may have had in his quarters we barely even caught a glimpse of in an early episode like "Mudd's Women."

He did have a really nice cabin. Sparsely-decorated, but I liked the long bookcase on the wall and the big wood grain table or desk with the monitor in it. I prefer to look at it as a flatscreen display built into his table and not a 1964-era television tube. It makes it a lot easier to accept.

The 203 crew complement is fine. Voyager has even fewer officers and crew than that and she's even bigger than the Enterprise and was launched 117 years after "The Cage." The lasers sound kinda hokey at first but even Ash Tyler used a laser cannon mounted on his Work Bee to cut into the hull of the Mirror Universe Klingon ship.

I actually would accept the 203 complement, given my own theory that when she came back from Pike's mission, she had a refit to some of the decks, lowering them a bit to add more crew and guest quarters, making the 5-year missions more bearable.
