USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I am firmly loving the new-old Enterprise. Wasn't a huge fan of the hole in the nacelle pylons, but it fits in pretty well with the show's design aesthetic. It looks like it could have been designed in a post-Shenzhou, pre-Discovery era. Eras in starship design in Star Trek can apparently be a couple years to about 100, lol.

Well, that's because of the Mexican food you ate that day. We did warn you about putting habaneros in your chimichangas.

What other ships have that?

Oh I didn't mean specifically that other ships had gaps in the pylons, but the look of incorporating negative space into the designs of ships, like the slots in Discovery's saucer, or the recesses in pylons like on the Shenzhou and the Shephard-classes, the recesses on the top of the saucer of the Hoover-class, the rollbar gaps on the Europa, or the pylon gaps on the Engle-class. The notches for the deflector dishes in saucer sections a la NX-class I kinda group together with this look, which is also common in DSC ships. These elements, then combined with really sharp edges along the sides of rounded shapes. I know that these aren't elements that are 100% exclusive to DSC, but they are pretty prevalent in general and give all of the ships a 'same era' kind of look to me.

Maybe 10 years from these designs, everyone gets rifits to something more smooth and rounded, with lighter colors like we see with the TOS Connie, but I won't lose sleep if not.

It would have been funny to see what would have happened to some of Krall's swarm if they tried to attack the pylons on this version of the Enterprise!

Agreed.
It’s future technology. It can all be upgraded and refitted as needed. Decades-old cars are still on the street. In STO, the D’Kyr and other ships from the 22nd century can blow up a Borg cube in the 25th century thanks to upgrades. And remember DS9’s USS Centaur? Still kicking posteriors in 2769.

There are still DC-3's being flown commercially in Peru. There are better planes available no doubt, but these have already paid for themselves many times over, they can be maintained with hand tools and they get the job done. Paraguay still (last I heard) is using Stuart tanks that the allies phased out in the middle of World War II.

I'd love if they redid the movies going back to the books and the original time period and setting, or even the Bond-Out-or-Retirement 1980's Gardner books into movies.
But failing that, Casino Royale was pretty much perfect. Best Bond movie since From Russia With Love.

Back to Trek...
