USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

They rarely showed up and they were exploring that part of the Galaxy.

I don't recall anything overly fanwankish in the handling of the Enterprise in Vanguard.

They had zero to do with the story, nothing. We got like 2 or 3 chapters with Kirk upset over an unrelated event and thar whole odd thing with Scotty and Gaz or whatever the crime lord was named.

Nothing was relevent to the story. They just kept bring up TOS events for fanwank reasons. IMO it really took away from the books.

Just have to disagree. It added nothing to the story other than to plug it.

They way the Enterprise was used in the first novel was perfect. Not too much and a gateway into Project Vanguard and Starbase 47.
We have been chatting about Desperate Hours in the thread about it. The story idea David Mack used was originally suggested by Fuller. So there's that.

Nope.

The USS Enterprise and Kirk were handled just fine in Vanguard. They're part of the first book, and appear at the end of the last one. No fanwanking there at all.

Seems like you're the only one though.

Unlikely, but the only one of us three. Anyhow, you cant cliam including the enterprise is fanwank for one book (no one has read) but not for others.

If you liked how he handled it in vanguard, you will likeily enjoy how he handles it in the new book. If ypu disliked it, you will likeiky not enjoy it.

Over all, I liked the vanguard series.

Are you talking the actual appearance of the Enterprise? Or the references to the various episodes off "camera"?

We have our first look at the updated Constitution Class:

I'm not a fan. I do not like those bent pylons. The rest of it is pretty traditional.

I love it, except those tubes at the pylon bend.

I like the bend though, makes the pylons look more sturdy.

The cutouts in the saucer are weird. I imagine they're updating the triangles (usually assumed to be landing legs) based on the positioning, except Discovery has triangles that match the TOS ship's.

The neck looks a little stubby, too, but that might just be perspective.

ETA: Oh, and no undercut in the saucer! Everyone must really hate that undercut. I know it makes the deck plans a pain, but I'm starting to miss it a bit after eight years of flat-bottomed 23rd century ships.

If those are the Defiant details from the mirror Universe, why is it still labelled USS?

It has to be the Prime Discovery’s record of the Defiant.

Also this thread doesn’t have a spoiler warning in the title we should tag all this.

Quite right. Edited.

So, it seems there are three possibilities:
1. Retconned Constitution design that replaces the one we know from TOS, TNG, DS9, and ENT.
2. Defiant after a hundred years of Mirror-Universe tinkering.
3. Defiant prior to a Constitution-class upgrade that led to the TOS version, which the Enterprise got before "The Cage" but the Defiant has yet to receive.

1 is the most likely IMO
