USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It's an off camera BTS shot, for all we know that's not the final image, it might not even be in focus in the final version.

Okay? Is this something someone got a snap of and released without CBS permission? Or is it something that CBS released?

If the Enterprise has Voyager-style moving pylons that slide back from TOS to TMP mode before jumping to warp.... that would actually be pretty fucking cool.
brilliant, finally a solution to the abrams request that something, anything move when the enterprise goes to warp.

The diameter of the saucer as given in that display graphic precisely matches Jefferies' specifications.

I hope we get a straight pylon option in STO when it hits the game.

All the measurements are taken from the Franz Josef tech manual, which does use some info given by Jefferies.

What happened with that business about Franz Joseph's daughter complaining about the show improperly using stuff from the Technical Manual? Was that resolved?

Like the archaic UFP symbol seen on a computer display aboard Discovery? I loved that tip of the hat and it was one of the things that did help make the series seem "older" and more retro than TOS or any of the other series.

Only if you let it.

We're all different and place emphasis on different things. Being someone that has watched Trek for as long as I can remember, the look of Discovery definitely doesn't scream prequel eight years before TOS to me. For me the visuals of TOS are part of TOS and the universe of that point in its "history". Not saying they should've just rebuilt the same exact sets, but a little more effort to be aesthetically similar would've been appreciated.

I find the Discovery sets more akin to the Enterprise-E than anything for TOS.

YMMV.

I’m going to guess that copying some text isn’t exactly the same.

Yeah, but his daughter got mighty upset over that. Might be why it was replaced it in the second half of the season.

I’m wondering if they swept back nacelle pylons are replaced with straight ones (sometime throughout S2) simply for the reason of disguising her for some [insert section 31] mission intent...

:vulcan:

Maybe Kurtzman got CBS to make a deal with F. Joseph's Estate to use it?

Also, there's a second instance of that Enterprise screen graphic in the aforementioned video.

A little later we see Burnham sitting on Tilley's lap in front of a large bridge station with that graphic prominently displayed again.

What an odd theory

Yep, sure is. I'm thinking shroomdrive odd in terms of the following precedents already set with Discovery:

- Section 31 is involved (ridiculous conspiratorial plots-thickening ahoy)
- Red angel / red signals (mysterious, and with religious inferences being suggested... perhaps)
- Klingon D-7 seen in trailer (a overt Prime Klingon design in an otherwise recognizable Klingon design aesthetic), which might suggest Discovery is not set in the Prime timeline at all (at least, CBS playing fast and loose with definitions of when/where the show is set)
- Multiversal timey-wimeyness going on...

...so odd theories (even ones as daft as mine) could fit nicely within this current iteration of Trekdom, IMO.

Really, all I'm doing is spitballin ideas as to why there might be two visually different looking Enterprises seen (even in a BTS image)... and going with the notion that there will be seen a straight-pyloned version out there somewhere... boldly supporting nacelles where no angled pylon has supported before...

:p
