USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I don’t know what happened with the Defiant graphic artwork in this episode, but the DSC Connie will not look like this. Redesigned, yes, but that graphic ain’t it.

I think it will in fact look like this. We saw a Federation Constitution that everyone on the Discovery knew was a Constitution at once. They saw a 20 year old ship, not a 110+ heavily modified ship( which is its age in the MU)

It shouldn't be a redesign. Just do what ENT did to the Defiant to give the ship more surface detail and dynamic movements in flight and in combat. The only reason for a visual reboot just 12 years after the fantastic reimagining in "IaMD" is one of two things: territoriality by the new producers and ignoring one of the most iconic and beautiful spacecraft designs in the history of science fiction in favor of their own, or sheer laziness to pander to the "oooooh, look how much cooler it is now" crowd.

There's no sensible excuse, just the two I provided. Like a visual reboot if you want, but it won't go over well and for valid in-universe and aesthetic reasons.

ENT it looked like crap. It looked like what it was, a design decades older than the far more advanced NX. It looked silly, like someone 1920's roadster supposed to be more advanced than the 72 corvette. It was a play up to the fans and really makes it hard to watch as its looks silly.

I don't care if they do a visual re-do on Connies or not. If it looks like that, I actually like it much better than the Abrams Enterprise.

We agree here, I hate that redesign.

Once more, as Blood pointed out this was not what we saw. The Crew saw a current Constitution class starship, not a modified one. They had zero issue with how it looked, this to them as a current Federation Constitution class ship.
That's how the scene played out from what I gathered watching the episode. Now, are fans going to revolt? Is there going to be endless arguments on the internet? Will CBS change it prior to it being actually seen in an actual episode, sans being a wire-frame? Only time will tell. Personally, I don't care for the changes. Subtle, yes, but didn't add anything to it visually as an improvement....

All IMHO

Yeah from what I recall, they used the Discovery's files, it had the name and number right there. This was not the Empires files, which they really do not have much info on. That was the whole point of the infiltration. The changes broke up the look, which in turn removed many of the issues that made it look old, without making it hard to see what it was.

My original comment was not mere speculation. It won't look like that.
Are you speaking from a position of 'advanced' knowledge of the situation (say, through a friend on the actual production) or are you speaking as someone who has actually (personally) seen pictures/renders?

Your opinion. You have the right to express and believe it. But to say you're in a very small minority is a huge understatement. Don't expect many people here to go along with you on it.

Not everyone has refined and sophisticated tastes, you know.

Yeah its my opinion, but its also a design fact. The TOS ship looks old, design wise, its the body shape and style. Everything post TMP looks newer ind design form, just as anything made after 1920 looks newer than a Model T with its plan and simple body shapes. Take the texture off and it still stands out as simplistic and primitive in shape.

FWIW, the wireframe diagram is on a screen with what looks like the Imperial dagger-and-Earth at the upper left corner...

Might be because every viewscreen was modified to feature the symbol (except of course not all of them were, on-set). Might be because this is MU data. Rebel data, that is, but with the Terran Empire logo because it was stolen from them. Might be something else.

Could be, I do not recall that its its not showing in the screen cap above. I'll look tonight.

Through a grapevine. I don't work on the show personally. I have not seen any renders or concepts of the Connie myself, no. Just heard things I've been told by those in the know, twice removed. Everything I've been told so far has proven accurate, so I imagine this will too.

^ PixelMagic, would you care to share what you've been told versus what the wire-frame image from the last episode depicts? I know I'd like to read what you have to say. Spoiler tags for the un-sullied, please....

That probably implies that by the time we see the actual Defiant on screen, the Empire WILL have heavily modified it to a form substantially different from the wireframe graphic.

The wireframe is still meant to serve as the baseline for what the Constitution class is SUPPOSED to look like, though. I don't personally care for it, but if the detailing on it is a little better, it would be an improvement over the TOS version.

From my understanding, if what I'm being told is accurate, that's not true. It's not supposed to be what the DSC Prime Connie looks like. It's either modifications by the Terran Empire, or someone just goofed up the graphic. Not sure which.
