USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Seems like a rather blatant copy, unless there was permission given:

Huh, that's really weird. :) The gridlines seem to be the same, so the definitely at least looked at it. I'm flattered! Defintely not going to complain about it. :D

Updated it.

ENT and DS9 did the same without going to these extremes, but, you know, that ship has sailed. This is the Enterprise we have to deal with in this particular series and arguing over whether or not "hip and kewl" 2018 viewers will accept the "reality" of a fictional spaceship is both time-consuming and will convert almost nobody, so why bother.

Let's make the most of what we've got and see what happens.

That's another way of saying they hadn't changed it at all. But then, those episodes were nostalgic homages, not meant to integrate anything into the visual continuity that the show has had since '79.

What did they do to the poor Enterprise?

The awful part is that the top of the saucer looks way better there than it does in the real design. At least it doesn't have those tacky, oversized might-be-lights/might-be-windows.

Yeah, that's the only part of the new design I don't really understand.

They did consider the TOS hull font at one point, as the USS Europa had it in the first trailer it appeared in.

Though that could have been just temp.

Yeah, they had to have ;) The did change the font of the hull lettering, but ended up getting it off center somehow in the process. I'm going to have to get a copy of that book. :D

That really glares....all of their lettering is significantly rotated to starboard.
