USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

They refined the Comic-Con design, decided they didn't like it and made a new one
Uh, why would they refine a design they weren't using anymore? It is said in the eaglemoss magazine that when the comic con teaser was released it was based on an older design that wasn't been worked on anymore.

My opinion is that the Discoprise was change partly because they could and with a committee's idea of "modernizing" it. The 1701 is a character just Kirk and Spock. Modernizing them gave us the JJverse.
Merchandise. Every Trek fan interested in that kind of thing has a model (or several) of the original 1701. The best selling Kelvin universe toy was the Playmates Enterprise model. CBS know fans will pay for stuff with the new ship on it.

The pylon angle out from the secondary hill on the newer 1701-A works better for me than the 2009 version of the Enterprise. The Discovery version has similar angling to that and the much older versions of the USS Enterpriser (TOS and TMP era) that she should look fine from most angles and any sort of fly by pass.

Much better looking for the camera that the USS Discovery at least.

The Discovery should get some flyby shots like we saw in the other series and films. Beauty shots and passes by the camera to highlight her shape and countours so that the ship can be much better appreciated. One thing DSC does not do well is dynamic beauty shots of ships and the appearance of the Enterprise is one of the few times we can sit and watch a starship glide by the camera and take her in, enjoying her appearance.

I'd enjoy her appearance a lot more if she had been lit better and without that blue filter, though I realise the model might not be entirely finished and they didn't want us to see the flaws. I surmise we're going to see her a lot better next season.

I have no business nitpicking the models and toys that Discovery fans want to buy. I own enough Star Wars action figures to choke a herd of bull elephants.

I store and display them single-file to hide their numbers.
Don't feel bad...
I have been collecting assorted Action Figures since 1975.
My collection is well above 1700 and still climbing, though a lot slower nowadays.
(and most of them are in storage boxes)
At last count, I had 584 Star Wars and 128 Star Trek figures alone.
(I also had about 250 GI Joe figures, but have sold most of them through ebay)

She may be a redundant design but both she and the Gagarin are pretty beautiful starships for this series. So many are forgettable or ugly and for all their flaws the Shepard-class vessels are pretty pleasing to the eye.

That's awesome!

...until the final shot where you can very clearly see it's just a flipped-and-slightly-modified USS Shenzhou.
Not slightly modified at all, like 70-80% of her is new parts (compared to the shenzhou)

The only part copied from the shenzhou is the bottom of the saucer, and even that is missing whole pieces of geometry, and has completely different windows and other hull details

Her nacelles are very Prometheus

I like the design to an extent, but I'm a little skeptical of the area where I have the red arrow. Nice convex top to the saucer, but I'm wondering how the secondary hull connects topside. I would like to see an aft view and direct side-on.

I'm not a fan of the super-long nacelles. I think they look better halfway between that and the stubby trend from TNG. Here are a couple of modifications. Just quick cut and pastes, and with my eyes being irritated this morning to boot, but you get the idea.

Honestly, this is yet another design that I like better than the Discovery fidget spinner.

Yeah, totally nothing like the Shenzhou.

Anyone but a fan would be hard pressed to tell them apart if the Shepard is upside down.

I wish they'd changed that underside more, especially the saucer rim angle.
