USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Not a chance we'll see the original TOS Connie in Discovery, because the show will be the tv version reboot of Star Trek, they'll explain this with "alternating dimensions" etc. All the differenting visuals so far emphasize that. Maybe we're gonna see a reimagined Enterprise or Constitution class (again).

So if it was a reboot you'd be fine with it?
Yes, if they came out and said that it was - I wouldn't be the number one fan as I don't like this past Trek obsession - I really want them to get back to the Post-VGR/Nemesis years - just imagine all the characters they could reintroduce from TNG/DS9/VOY.

I'd like to see Pike's Ent, but if they are not sticking to the timeframe after season1, I'd like to see the Phase 2 crew at some point. This would allow them to give Spock and his lineage a rest and explore the younger vulcan Xon. Also they could take a cue from DSC and get the focus off Kirk and onto Decker and Ilia. This will never happen I know.

If they do something post Nemesis I would prefer they start with a blank slate. Imo the novels own the characters now, and they in many cases have done a better job with them then anything on screen.

meh....don't care about canon or anything else as long as the show is good. Hell, I bought into Starbuck being a female easily enough, I can buy into retconned Star Trek if it's good. Entertainment should be hitting your emotional buttons, not your rational buttons. Save rationality for science and philosophy, not entertainment. I think the new Discovery starship looks stupid as hell, but that doesn't mean anything if the show is good. That starship they pulled out of their ass in SG1 was horrid looking, but made for some damn good TV episodes.

Well, NuBSG was marketed as a reboot from the get go. No retcon, new canon...

You don't like the obsession with the past... but you want a future series so we could bring back characters from past shows?

The big gain from doing a future jump was a blank slate, not tied down by what came before, and a fresh start, a la TNG. Seems wasteful to do it only to tie it into Berman's Last Gleaming.

Berman's last gleaming. That's either the name of a song or a drink.

Also, I wonder if people would still be happy with a post-NEM/VOY series if the setting and canon was all right, but the characters were meh.

Well they liked Voyager.

There would be those whose dreams were made by another Berman show set in the 25th century with bland characters, no humour, episodic reset buttons and uninspired writing. But not enough to keep a show afloat anymore.

If they decide to ever go back to post NEM/25th century era - they can count me out as I'm sure they'll have replicator wands that can materialize anything out of thin air; and mankind so well adjusted and in agreement they won't have to speak because everyone will be thinking the same way. Plus I'm sure the Bridge would be on big Conference Room where they can debate how right the Federation stance is - or debate how to disperse the latest particle of the week with there Deflector dish (YMMV);)

What if you did post-NEM and put it into a world where the federation is actually in crisis and falling?

I hope they leave any appearance of the TOS Enterprise till the end of the series

They could easily pull a Smallville and tease that out for a decade, though. If the Enterprise is out there, don't be coy and show the damn thing.
