USA Today poll: 70% want Shatner back as Kirk

Did anyone check out today's poll in USA Today?

The poll (from a general audience) shows strong support for William Shatner's return as Kirk in ST XI.

So much for giving the people what they want.

I'm sure it was very scientifically done and the BBKers had nothing to do with influencing the results...

I find the results unsurprising. while fans may squabble depending on their preference I think most casual viewers identify Shatner as captain kirk as much as Nimoy being Spock. The fact that Kirk died in ST X is not really a strong enough reason to not include him, but if it really doesn't fit the story being developed then so be it. I just think it would've been nice to at least give the character a decent sendoff rather than the uterly stupid one he got in Generations.

It's down to 67% now. Let's neutralize the BBK effect! Team effort! :D

PS, if there had been a Who Gives a Fuck? option, I think I know which option would be winning...

I still think Shatner's in this.

The week the trailer premieres, we have an "exchange" between Shat and Abrams about why Kirk can't appear in the film.

Something's up, despite what some folks are saying.

Kirk died *again*? Well come on, how many chances does this guy get?

No, it really isn't.

He's not in the movie.

So all script decisions should be decided based on how people vote in USA Today polls? I'm not sure if I'd want to see that movie...

Who does he think he is, anyway, Daniel Jackson? :p

We'd get Kirk back all right - played by Lindsay Lohan.

Well, given that USA Today's audience are the same people who probably read People Magazine regularly, I'm not too concerned.

The poll's attached to an article about Shatner. Which means if you're reading it and you're part of the general audience, you probably give more than a passing shit about Shatner for whatever reason. Sample bias.

And then of course, there's the inevitable ballot-stuffing by the BBK crowd. Just like Serenity manages to come up first or second in every IMDB poll it's mentioned in, of course "everyone" wants Shatman back as Kirk.
