US Space Force Ranks? [Speculation]

Looks good. I understand this is interim, though. Wonder if it'll stick when everything shakes-out.

One thing I am unclear on is if that man's rank is still "Chief Master Sergeant" or if his rank is "Senior Enlisted Advisor of the United States Space Force".

Good question. I would assume that since no regulations for USSF grades have been promulgated, he still holds the USAF rank of chief master sergeant.

For those who may not know: Enlisted grade titles in the US armed forces are set by the service secretaries. Warrant and commissioned officer grades are established by Congress.

Spaceman First Class does have a ring...

can we just go with space knight?

Some USSF uniform tidbits:
U.S. Air Force Airmen who transfer into the U.S. Space Force will continue to wear the Operational Camouflage Pattern utility uniform currently worn by USAF and U.S. Army personnel, but with distinct blue thread and a colored U.S. flag on the left arm. The USSF is the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and is part of the Department of the Air Force.

I wish I was 18 again and I could join the Space Force. I loved being in the Air Force, worst mistake of my life was getting out.

As we go along, I am starting to suspect that the Space Force ranks / insignia / uniforms are going to relate to the Air Force more or less the same way that the Coast Guard relates to the Navy. In other words, nearly exactly with some minor tweaks for distinction's sake.

In fairness the Coast Guard predates the US Navy so it's kind of the other way around. :)

Well, the Revenue Cutter Service predates the Navy, but it's officer ranks began as 'Master' and 'Mate.' Later Master became 'Captain' and junior officers (1st mate, 2nd Mate, etc.) were the very Army-like '1st Lieutenant,' '2nd Lieutenant,' and '3rd Lieutenant.' The year 1908 would see the addition of 'Captain-commandant' and 'Senior Captain.'
Navy-like ranks would not arrive until the 1920s after the RCS was combined with the Life-Saving Service (which never had commissioned officers) to form the Coast Guard.

But the Royal Navy preceded and inspired both.

Yet you'd be hard pressed to put the Royal Navy rank insigniae up against the US Navy rank insigniae and come to the the conclusion that the one had much to do with the other except in an extremely general way.

Sort of the same way that Air Force ranks track to the Army.

Disclaimer: I am specifically talking about Enlisted Personnel / "Other Ranks" / Rates

Edit to add: Basically I am saying that the Space Force insigniae are probably going to wind up looking almost exactly like Air Force insigniae, just like Coast Guard insigniae look almost exactly like Navy insigniae.

Also if we're talking uniforms, the USCG for many years just used the USN uniform regulations with a few pages of their own modifications added. Enlisted jumper uniforms just added the shield on the right sleeve, though they did have that unique white flat hat in the late '60s. But in the early '70s they went their own way with the Bender Blues.

Well, on that point I guess I agree. The US naval enlisted and NCO insignia was loosely inspired by army/marine rank insignia (including the British Army and Royal Marines) with some novel tweaks.

On the other hand, the officer sleeve insignia (the style worn by all officer ranks), is very similar which the exception of the O(F-)1 grade which is split into Lieutenant-JG (equivalent of RN Sub Lieutenant) and the more junior rank of Ensign (historically senior to the RN Midshipman billet but now broadly equivalent to the Midshipman rank).

VERY loosely. As in, "there are some chevrons there". That's about it.

I saw this from a youtube comment.

US Army - Army Strong
US Marines - Semper Fi
US Air Force - Aim High
US Navy - America's Navy, Forged by the Sea

US Space Force - Live Long and Prosper

Considering how the new Space Force emblem looks alot like Starfleet Command's logo.
