Underrated Movies

Terminator Salvation. I just dont understand the hate. It was absolutely better the T3 and personally, I prefer it to T2's sappy crap. Also A-10's kicking but alone justify this movie.

I like the film too, it is better in some respects than the first two and it can't be too difficult to be better than the mess that was T3. Pretty solid film and fun to watch.

T3 was better than I expected. I'd count it as underrated (just rewatched it last night, actually)

Salvation... was OK on its own terms, but I keep thinking it would actually make more sense as a Matrix spinoff/prequel than a Terminator one...

T3 gets points from me for actually ending on such a downer with J-Day happening, which i didn't believe would until the point where the T-1s started running amok.

In Bruges. Brutally funny, witty, charming, violent. It never gets old for me.

I watched this last year with my Girlfriend, I was in stitches all the way through.

[Dublin Accent] Fucking Bruges. [/Dublin Accent]

Another underrated Irish film is The Guard; Brendon Gleeson, the titular non conformist Galway Guard (an Irish Police Officer) and Don Cheadle, an FBI Agent working with the Irish Authorities buddy up to locate a massive drug haul. Lots of swearing, some prostitutes and the occasion bit of drug taking make this a very darkly humourous film.

I, Robot: Not perfect, not as good as it could have been, but there are some truly interesting and Asmovian ideas here. Just look at the last shot. I also think the Del's backstory is fairly gripping, particularly smith's delivery of the story.

Agreed, I rather enjoyed it and even though I have a friend who disagrees massively, I personally believe it does have some very Asmovian concepts running through it and is more connected to the I, Robot short stories then most people give it credit.

Zodiac
- Highly critically acclaimed, it sadly underperformed at the box office.

I have it. Never watched it though. I did suggest watching it tonight to the other half after reading this thread but she vetoed it as she has work in the morning.

Can't say I can really think of any other underrated films other than Run, Fatboy Run; An ex-fiance (Simon Pegg) who left his Pregnant Wife-to-be (Thandie Newton) on their wedding day proves to her he still loves her and has grown-up by running the "London Marathon" while injured. It's actually a nice little feel good comedy.

'The Villain' a comedy western with Kirk Douglas and Arnold Schwarzenegger, so stupid it works. I love this movie.

Comedies don't remembered very well. Foul Play I think should be on lists instead of forgotten.

But some movies just never get heard of. I got one, The Skeptic, on Netflix and it was a nice little ghost movie.

In addition to John Carter for underrated epics, Oliver Stone's Alexander.

This may be too new to be judged underrated, but Young Adult probably deserved to get more attention that it did . . .

We'll see what the verdict of history is. :)

I said the same thing above. We think alike at times. Of course, while Mavis might be in need of help, the film certainly portrays 'normal life" with a twist, but normal life and normal people (in this case slightly abnormal people in an otherwise normal context) don't seem to get the attention of either the public or the critics and they usually don't get the acclaim.

it's a good film. I hate rom-coms, so, just reading a blurb description of the premise would have been enough to keep me away. The fact that I'm about the same age as Mavis, and the fact that I'm a writer who lives alone, etc. was what really connected me to the film. A friend of mine insisted I see it after he saw it (he's seen best picture-nominated films and he recommends them to be but never insists that I see them0 and I did and I realize that there are so many things in this film that just ring true. I also like how it dares to challenge a whole of film; the rom-com. If a rom-com actually happened, it would play out more as it does in this film rather than they way they do in actual romantic comedies. I think what really makes this film compelling is its dark undercurrent. Most people don't even know what subtext is anymore, and this film is loaded with it.

Yeah, I liked it. Cute little movie.

Yeah, I found myself thinking about the characters and their motivations a lot after watching it, which speaks well for the film. There are levels . . ..

And, yes, one of Mavis's (many) problems is that she's got this whole ridiculous rom-com fantasy playing out in her brain, which has little or no relationship to the way life really works. Which means she's heading for one hell of a nasty reality check.

And it's probably the most realistically non-glamorous portrait of a struggling hack writer I can think of right now. The scene where she tries to convince that unimpressed bookstore employee that, no, really, she did write that little work-for-hire YA novel because, see, there's her name in small print on the title page just makes you cringe--in a good way.

Oh I enjoy all four of the films, T3 included and I do like the humour aspect of it. It has some great action sequences, CGI, one liners and the T-X is interesting, but compared to the other 3 it just lacks something.

yeah, i've always liked that film. it feels like a long Loony Toons episode.
Kirk Douglas and the horse were hilarious, it was very much a Loony Toons relationship between them. The villain fails too, much like the Coyote and Road Runner, were pretty good, too.

I remember that movie.

They paint a tunnel on the mountain, just like the Roadrunner.

Very, very silly.

Another of my underrated movies is, Pixars Cars. I just don't get the hate and vitriol hurled against this movie. It's an incredibly sweet movie, with a simple and straight forward message. I love that I can let my 3 1/2 & 2 year old sons watch this without any hesitation. also the CGI is simply amazing and breath taking at times. In an age where even family or kids movies supposedly need an edge, this is skewed in the other direction.

I'd say that Cars 2 is more underrated than the original Cars. Speaking of underrated Disney/Pixar films, I've got to mention WALL-E.

I'm one of maybe twenty people, if not less, people in the world who like it, but I've always found "Masked and Anonymous" to be very underrated. The execution of it is far from perfect, but man is it never not interesting to me in one way or another.

Another underrated movie for me is a quasi sequel to The Commitments, called The Snapper. It is very funny and whitty, with an outstanding performance by Colm Meany. It is a million times better then it's direct sequal The Van, which is slow and dull. The Snapper has one of the best lines in any movie, the daughter is pregnant and says she doesn't remember the name of the person who is the father of the child and Colm Meanys character retorts, "I was drunk when I met your mother, I still remembered her name." It's not as funny typed out, but the way he delivered it, all frustrated and mad, makes it cinema comedy gold.
