Under the Cloak of War. M'Benga was a bit overdramatic

Except that the Federation wanted the war vets to interact with Dak’Rah. And as Pike is supposed to represent the best of the Federation, he’s just furthering the goals of what the Federation want. The insensitivity is really on the part of the Federation. Especially since Pike decided that Dak’Rah should leave the ship a whole day early when Una made it clear to him that Rah’s presence was affecting crew morale.

The war vets were right to be mad at Dak'Rah's presence on the ship. But, the war vets should also be mad at the idiocy that occurred before, during, and after the Battle of the Binary Stars on the part of Starfleet. Burnham, Saru and Georgiou are all to blame for that battle escalating into a war and 100M dead. And Saru should have been held accountable like Burnham, instead of being promoted.

Also worth noting that the war vets aren’t being given an outlet to channel their anger and trauma properly. Maybe this is why Starfleet has ship's counselors in the 24th century, though one has to wonder what took so long to begin with. But then again, between this and Shaw's outburst at Picard in PIC, Starfleet seems to have a problem supporting those that have lingering trauma.

Yeah. I agree. Burnham got off way to easy. She was responsible for a whole war but yet gets praised as being amazing most of the series.

She was hardly responsible for the war. The war would have happened whether Burnham and the Shenzhou was there or not. Furthermore, she was sentenced to life in prison so I don't see how that represents for getting off easy. The fact that she was giving a chance to redeem herself doesn't change that.

Court martial and a sentence of life in prison. Refuses the new assignment until Lorca guilts her in to it. Looked down upon by some crew mates for starting a war the Klingons were going to fight anyway.

Blamed for Georgiou's death.

Doubted many times by Saru and Stamets.

She did not get off easily. Nevermind the trauma and guilt she had buried under Vulcan discipline that did more harm than good.
