U.S.S. TITAN -- THE WINNER!

That is fucking awsome, well done, it looks like it could easily be seen in a scene in Trek.

If you do this kind of contest again, or evennext year for Strange New Worlds, can you screw the tax laws and open it up to us over here

Gorgeous design. Let's get it to Art Asylum so they can crank a copy out to go alongside the fleet. Would love to be able to hold Riker's ship in my hand. Whoa. That sounds kinda homoerotic. Anyhows, great design. Fawkin love it. I can finally start those novels now.

"Screw the tax laws"? Does Marco look like a Congressman to you? :vulcan:

I hope I never live to see the day when someone's accomplishments in the Star Trek world are met with universal acclaim.

It surely would be a sign of the f***ing apocalypse.

Congratulations, Sean. You certainly deserve this proud moment.

Kevin (Man, reading this thread has left me with the same feeling I get after we serve a new recipe on a night when all three of my children are home for dinner. We know going in that someone is bound to kvetch ad nauseam about how horrible it is; we just never know specifically who or why)

HEY! Watch yourself about that saucer stuff. Nothing wrong with a good, solid sphere once in awhile. ;)

Not at all good sir, to clarify what I said, regardless of the differing taxation laws between the wider world and the United States, can you please let entries from outside of North America (excluding Quebec) enter the competitions.

Granted, the Daedalus & Olympic class do have spherical 'saucer' sections, but the basic Starfleet design is there.

Way to go, Sean!!! Congratulations!!

Don't let these naysayers rain on your parade. It's an awesome design.

Now now, considering that much of the design is stylistically based on the Sovereign (and besides the fact that at such a low resolution of presentation by Pocket Books it has been reduced to the parody of a kitbash), you shouldn't be so surprised that many have not taken to it. Think about how many people dislike the E-E - myself included - and you'll understand it is to be expected.

Myself, I have reasons to both like and dislike the Titan as we see her now: At this time the good things about it are outweighed by the negative aspects, but I am hoping this will change as and when I get to see the full-sized image. ;)

To dislike about the Titan, I'd like to point out the following, and consider them to be belated constructive criticism if you will:
1) Re-use of the Akira nacelles. To me they always screamed of a pre-Galaxy design, no matter what some designer at ILM may say - and we all know what kind of craptacular design messes they were responsible for in the early Trek movies!
2) The catamaran humps seem very unstreamlines in the side profile - they could use some re-shaping to blend them into the hull, as could the pylons for the upper Pod.
3) Why is the pod there? If it's an extra sensor suite then sobeit, but is it necessary to stick torpedo launchers up there when elsewhere on the hull would suffice?
4) The leading edge of the saucer section is a little... bulky. Why so thick for a ship of this size?

The good::
1) I like the fact that the impulse engines are on the aft face of the saucer, instead of repeating that absurd looking "sportscar" grill arrangment pioneered by John Eaves.
2) The deflector array isn't gold/yellow/orange. Good. Though I wish I could see more of the deflector design itself than is currently possible at this resolution.
3) The starboard profile of the secondary hull, including the idea of the inset shuttlebay. It calls to me, I have no idea why though.

There you have it, a breakdown of the basic issues as far as I'm concerned. Others may have different views, I for one would like to hear them - preferably more in more constructive terms than petty bashing or emotive gushing! :vulcan:

And by the way, Sean, Congratulations.

(EDITED FOR GIBBLE TYPING FINGERS)

She follows established Starfleet design lineage much closer than ANYTHING turned out by John Eaves. Paramount-give this man a job immediately!

That always reminded me of Josie and the Pussycats in Space!

congrats, Sean! Good job!

It's not really doing anything for me aesthetically, but then the images are rather flat and uninspiring. I bet it will look real good when in motion, illuminated, set against a starfield. I do want to say, however, how very cool I think it is that Pocket conceived of letting a fan design be used for the Titan and was able to successfully followthrough, even if I've no real eye for starship design (as the following question will demonstrate).

However, I must ask: what is that doohickey on the top of the ship? It looks like the easy-carry handle on my luggage.

Boy... it's a good thing Pocket isn't doing a "Most Beautiful Child of a Trekkie" contest...

"I thought A's son was okay, just not my idea of 'cute'."

"She has B's eyes and C's nose... where's the originality??"

"Do his cheeks have to be that chubby?"

"I just don't like D's son, because he looks too much like Braga's kid..."

It's interesting, I suppose; I'll need to see a higher-quality version to really get an impression.

I'm guessing it is some sort of science module/sensor pod, akin to some of the Miranda and Nebula class variants.

Again, a very sweet design. I'd love to see some sort of 3D model of this.

I discovered that viewing the images seperately makes them a bit bigger. Go figure. Maybe it's just Firefox.

Nice design though. It's unique enough that even a non-fan won't think it's an Enterprise, but it is most definately a Star Trek ship.
