U.S.S. TITAN -- THE WINNER!

I like the design a lot. That being said, I don't really see any aft-firing weapons other than the torpedo launcher. No aft-dedicated phaser arrays? Then again, my eyes are bad.

Nice designe... but the Titan should be as big or bigger than a Galaxy class... just my 2 cents. :o

Nifty (if a tad derivitive).
Yeah, boy, perish forbid that a Starfleet ship look like, y'know, a Starfleet ship.

Sorry, but there's nothing to indicate that Starfleet shipbuilders go all that far outside the lines, as it were. Titan was going to have a similiar feel to the other ships.

But this isn't a "Starfleet builder." This is a "real" person. Nothing wrong with some originality and uniqueness.

It just seems like fans just copy what they see put out by TPTB. For instance, ever since the NX-01 came out, how many fan-designed ships have had a notch at the front of the saucer? Since Voyager and the Ent-E, how many fan ships no longer have a connecting dorsal? Or, like the Titan, has elements of the catamaran from the NX-01 on the saucer?

It's the official designers who seem to take the ships in new directions, and the fans who just copy them. Not saying I haven't done the same thing myself with my doodles.

A huge congratulations to the winner!

I can't believe it, but I actually imagined Titan having the nacelles underneath it... This looks pretty close to how I envisioned it. Great job!

I think this is the first time that any hero ship, be it on screen or in print, has had the low-slung nacelles. Not bad at all. Marco, is it possible to see the images in their original size (unless you're saving them for Book 4)? The way they've been resized makes them a little blurry.

It's got a far more compact feel to it than I imagined, but I like it! This is going to make some fine cover material...

Nice looking ship, yes. But derivitive is also the first word that came to my mind upon looking at it. At least it goes a bit further than just slapping together various parts from various existing ships.

Well, consistency with established Starfleet style did represent 25% of the score...as did originality. The challenge to any designer entering the contest was how to balance the two criteria. :)

Exactly!
That's the challenge of writing for Star Trek (or any media tie-in) in a nutshell. Do something original that is consistent with what's been established. It's working within a pretty tight constraint, but so is constructing a sonnet. Within the confines of the structure there is a lot of room for originality.

Sean's design is a perfect example of creativity within the form. Every element is recognizable, yet the whole is refreshingly different. I particularly like touches like the recessed hangar bay doors on the engineering hull, the placement of the impulse engines and the fact that it looks like it could do a saucer sep if it had to. (Which I could be wrong about, I've been wrong before.) My point being, it looks like a working Starfleet vessel.

(Of course, living on the coast, I always think those instrument pods above the primary hull are "flying bridges." In case, y'know, you want to get in a little sport fishing between missions.)

Overall a very satisfying design. Well done.

LONG LIVE THE TITAN!

(Scarily this is similar to what I had imagined myself when I first read Titan :D)

It's a good design, thought not necessarilly what I would have come up with had I been so artistically inclined.

To be frank, reading the novels, I pictured something more in the John Eaves style of Starfleet design than this, which looks to be more of the Rick Sternbach school of thought; they're both good, mind you, though I do tend to prefer Eaves. In particular, I kinda wish that the nacelles and bussard collectors were sleeker and thinner, and I find that the "fishing bridge" makes the ship look a bit more like the Akira-class than I'd tend to prefer. And I also pictured the Luna-class ships as having the darker colors of the Saber, Norway, and Steamrunner classes rather than the greys of the Galaxy and Nebula classes.

But, again, those are purely subjective opinions, and this is a good design that fits all of the necessary criteria. It just feels a bit retro, is all.

My first thought when looking at it was 'Akiratitan' but there are still things about it I like. I would have liked different engines myself. The artist does good work. Congrats to the winner.

Nice. Hints of the ENT-E, the futuristic ENT-D from All Good Things ..., Reliant, VOY and NX-01, yet with its own distinct shape and feel. It'll be nice to be able to picture it when reading the Titan novels.

Hey, its no...

But really, what is one to expect when you rely on fan entries

Seriously, major kudos and CONGRATS to the designer of the newest ship in TREK-lore, Sean Tourangeau. Considering who was on the panel of judges, I think this ship certainly passes muster. I would love to see it on screen.
