Two Skeletons

I think he just means it's unlikely that both of those people just decided to lay down and die. Someone else had to put their bodies there after the fact.

Yeah, that's probably right for at least the last one to die. Unless they knew they were going to die for some reason and decided that's were they wanted to be.

It's been awhile since I saw the episode but I do believe Jack (or someone else) actually says the bodies were placed there. I also believe the bodies arms were crossed across their chests, like is done in some funerals.

Maybe the cave was used like a tomb?

Also possible that, rather than the bodies of time-travelling replacements of Jacob/MiB, they are the people who were replaced by Jacob/MiB. Or their parents (if they're brothers).

Yeah, it's a weird place to die but who knows? At this point, though, I can't see anymore time traveling so my guess is it must be something that happened in the past.

Well...if there is no more time traveling and the bodies are as Jack guesses 40-50 years old, that means Adam and Eve are two people we don't know and I doubt they'll go that rout.

According to the writers, those two bodies are the "proof" the writers put in place to prove they always knew where they were headed with the story so I'm thinking it must be people we know. So, I'm thinking there must be some sort of time travel event that occurs, even if it's just the one time in the finale in order to get those 2 people back there.

Unless, after the nuke went off, Bernard and Rose stayed in the 70's and that's them though that wouldn't make a lot of sense. I dunno....my current theory is that it's either Bernard/Rose or Jin/Sun. Jack/Kate seems to obvious and Jacob/Flocke would mean Jack's assessment of one of them is a women would be wrong.

Maybe Jin will have to travel back in time to save everyone, but he knows it is a one way trip and that he'll never come back, so Sun goes with him and they end up stuck on the island back in the past, but at least they are together.

Another side thought. The Island heals, people "touched" by Jacob live a long time.

Maybe because of these phenomena even after death bodies can take a really long time to decompose?

So maybe the bodies in the the cave are much old then jack thought because they decomposed really slowly. They could be hundred of years older if that was the case.

Also, now thinking about it, the Dharma bodies in the pit (that Locke fell into after Ben shot him) should have been much more decomposed after 20 years out in the open like that. Heavy Rain, Sun, Heat & Humidity plus birds and other animals would have had those bodies reduced down to skeletons in no time. Yet, lots of them still had rotting skin and flesh, mold, etc...

Maybe bodies do decompose slower on the Island, and if so the Skeletons in the caves could be super old. As in pre-Black Rock, Pre-Jacob and the MIB old.

Well, Jack was just giving an estimate. I think he said it had to be at least that old, not that it was exactly that old.

I'll eat my hat if neither of them ever gets back to the baby. Never happen. This is a network show.

I think it's Man in Block's mom and dad (probably jacob's mom and dad as well

Well, Jack's a neurosurgeon, not a forensic anthropologist, but it is possible for an expert to determine rather easily whether a male/female skeleton pair is two Asians or a Caucasian and an African. It has to do with the orbits of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, and the chin, among other things.

My money's on Bernie and Rose, but I can't prove it.... ;)

That would fit my theory that Jacob and MIB are Osiris and Set, who are brothers, according to Egyptian mythology.

The only problem with this would be that those figures are far too ancient, and that if they were human and died, their bones probably wouldn't even be left, much less their clothes.

My only real, viable thought on the subject is that whoever they are, they're likely the reason why both Jacob (and possibly Smokey) have begun a campaign of finding replacements for themselves. The amount of time they've been dead, assuming Jack's assessment is right, gives Jacob enough time to begin searching and affecting the lives of those he's found. He's certainly the only person on the island at the time who would have arranged their bodies like they were rather than just tossing them into a grave (the Others) or leaving them to rot (Smokey).

I don't think it's anyone we've met so far. At best, it might be two people from the Black Rock of whom we may learn of soon enough.

^^^ This was based on Jack's statement in the show, and it's also been pointed out that Jack isn't that great of a doctor, either. :)

However, assuming that Jack does know how to determine the gender of skeletal remains (pelvic shape & brow ridge differences), here's my theory: As most mythology is to believed to derive from some nugget of reality, I suspect that "Adam and Eve" on the island are the two real people whom the mythological Egyptian gods "Anubis" and "Tawaret" are based on, as evidenced by the wall carvings in the temple and statue showing both of these opposing deities - Anubis, god of the underworld/afterlife/mummification/death and Tawaret, the goddess of fertility and child birth.

Again, way too old to have surviving bones or clothing.

^^^ When speaking conventionally, yes, I would agree.

However, since time travel has now been used as a primary plot device for this show, all bets are off.
