Two New Exclusive Clips - MTV and Yahoo! Movies

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

I can give them Kirk acting like that at that age, but something about Uhura seemed odd. That whole "sex with barn animals" line doesn't sit too right with me.

It was an awkward line on the page and it's an awkward line on screen. It would've flowed much better if she'd stopped at "hick" and Kirk's reply had been "not dumb." It's not the vulgarity that's the problem, there's just no rhythm to it, it's an obviously artificial line designed to elicit Kirk's response.

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

i have been looking but so far no luck on the you tube version.

as for the uhura stuff..
it sorta reminds me of naked time when sulu is beserk on the bridge with the sword.
he declares he will protect the fair maiden and uhura sharply replies sorry, neither.

and then there is the song from charlie x
Oh, on the starship Enterprise There's someone who's in Satan's guise Whose devil ears and devil eyes Could rip your heart from you. At first, his look could hypnotise And then his touch would barbarise His alien love could victimise And rip your heart from you. And that's why female astronauts, Oh, very female astronauts Wait terrified and overwrought To find what he will do. Oh, girls in space, be wary, be wary, be wary, Girls in space, be wary. We know not what he'll do.

I disagree. There's nothing to the "revised" version at all.

I notice that they worked Uhura's famous "nothing I can't handle" line into the film.

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

there was odd bit of editing in the McCoy clip, watching the position of his head. I also noticed some ANH-esque PA announcements in the background, like the hanger on Yavin. Ben Burtt is always good at making things feel big!

As for the clip: It's like I'm sitting on a shuttle meeting an old friend for the first time. good stuff

It's a little bland. Alternatively Uhura's line could be simplified to "and I thought hicks like you only fucked farm animals", leading into the same response from Kirk, but then it wouldn't follow as well from the line preceding it. "Dumb hick" is a response to Kirk's previous line, "only has sex with farm animals" is a lead-in to Kirk's next line; the two elements don't connect smoothly, it's not something someone would actually say. It's clear the writers wanted that particular exchange and were willing to mangle Uhura's line to get it.

I liked the rest of the clip (and McCoy's) though.

bland? er, no.

we NEED this movie to appeal to the younger crowd. we ain't gonna cut it with no "fair maiden" dialogue.

as far as I am concerned, the scene's fine.

Another Enterprise element, no more stilted dialogue. Who knew

"You have no idea how much i'm restraining myself from knockin you on YOUR ASS!"

would start something

I heard the original line was Uhura teasing him about being some "Hick who spends all of his time watching gazelles then grows up to be a moron" but was cut for the sake of conversational fluidity.

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

Don't know if it's already been posted but Yahoo Movies has a 45 second clip of McCoy meeting Kirk

WOW! :D

Awesome. Thank you.

45 Seconds Long. Our first look at a scene from the new film. I found it hilarious!

This was also featured during the Press Junket a while abck.
Bloody hell, does anyone have a YouTube or alternate site? They "can't play the video in my region."
If you have iTunes from Apple you can not only watch the trailers, but download them as well (for free).:vulcan: Hope that helps.

Well, I had no problem with Uhura's line. In fact, Kirk's reply to the "sex with farm animals" thing is already classic: "Not only." And the look Chris Pine gives is so much like Shatner saying "No, I'm from Iowa, I only work in outer space." Lovely.

Yeah -- the line is forced and set up -- but not necessarily by the writers, but rather by Uhura.

I think that line IS something she would say if she was intentionally trying to be cheeky/cute. In a strange backhanded way, it's a version of a pick-up line -- or at least a line delivered to illicit conversation with this man she just met.

We all on occasion have delivered a "line" such as this -- one that is certainly not "spontaneously organic speech", but rather deliberately calculated speech.

Just on the side: Karl Urban's involvement will certainly heighten the media attention here in New Zealand.

And might I say I'm damn impressed by that wee clip. I couldn't imagine a Kiwi playing Bones but, 20 seconds in, I was sold. Awesome!

The McCoy clip really changed the context of that "Space is disease and danger..." line that we heard in one of the earlier trailers -- and I like it.

The context given in the rest of that clip changed that line from being delivered in the dark and brooding manner we saw in the trailer (not very McCoy-like) to being delivered in that cantankerous-yet-strangely-charming manner that IS so much like the McCoy that we all know and love.

Urtbanis a really talented actor for sure. Whenever my buddies and I talk about Lord of the Rings, his character is always mentioned. Sure all the acting is good, but always seems like he may actually be the most suited in those films, like he belongs in that world. Now, having seen the clip, watching the facial expressions and the hand gestures, I'm really sold. I think they could have gone for a slightly less annoying voicefor that lady that's making him sit down, but Urban really nailed it!

Hell, that few seconds with Urban in the shuttle would be worth ten bucks by itself.

Watch the scene again and try to focus on Pine, if you can. (I know, it's hard because Urban is fantastic.) That's the look Kirk would have just about any time McCoy went on a rant. Pine nailed it.

There you have the actual problem with the dialogue - the word that's wanted, conversationally, is indeed "fuck," but that's a bit too much even for this Trek movie.

It's the "had sex with" that sticks out, so to speak. ;)

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

The McCoy scene is nothing less than awesome. Its even better than Deforest's entrance in STTMP.

RAMA

It's certainly better written. And yeah, trying to deliver that dialogue ("Your revered Admiral Nogura invoked a little-known, seldom-used reserve activation clause...in simpler language, they drafted me!") resulted in one of Kelley's more awkward performances.
