Damn, I loved the Kirk/Uhura clip!

I can give them Kirk acting like that at that age, but something about Uhura seemed odd. That whole "sex with barn animals" line doesn't sit too right with me.

What's wrong with it?

I thought Saldana's performance was great here, BTW. Her delivery is very Uhura-like, especially the dismissive "you have no idea what that means." And she communicates very clearly the fact that Uhura is enjoying herself - so clearly that you know her would-be "protector" must be fairly drunk himself not to pick up her clear signal to back off and leave her and the "farm boy" be.

Maybe she's not overly self-conscious and doesn't take herself more seriously than she ought to?

The concept of "dignified humor" is certainly one that would probably make sense to the likes of Jean Luc Picard - it's stuffy and unreal, like the rest of the 24th century.

Yeah, but I'm just not having any trouble with it on any level. That this kind of thing seems out of place in Star Trek and/or doesn't suit many fans notions of how folks in Trek ought to behave is as good aan example as any of why the Franchise has become irrelevant as entertainment. No one but Trek fans would nitpick this kind of thing as inappropriate.

Next thing, someone will come along and compare it to Orci and Kurtzman's "Transformers" humor and it's nothing at all like that either.
