I am quite amazed how well they actually got the characters to match TOS counterparts, it is pretty amazing how well they got the casting here and the actors jobs of portraying the characters.

I can't tell you how relieved I am after reading the Geek jism sprayed all over the intertubes at this movie. Apparently, the general audience in Australia gave it a standing O as well.
Did you notice something else? JJ and Paramount are targeting repeat-business moviegoers: the 13-25 year olds. They want that disposable income. They are deliberately trying to repeat George Lucas' epic feat of 1977, where almost everyone in the U.S. saw Star Wars.
This could do it. I'm effing serious.
All it needs is a scene with sombreros. That will bring in the Mexican demographic.

Well, PineKirk is... kirky. The bar scene is really cool. I'm not sold on McCoy, yet, but it's no big deal, he can be a different McCoy.
