TWO More Seasons of Smallville (At Least)

Frontier

I still remember when "Smallville" was supposed to run for 'just the four years of high school' before Clark would go off to find his destiny.

I remember comments from the producers when they did season 5 that they decided to "do one more year to wrap things up" and such.

Season 6, season 7, season 8 where all surprises.

When rumor began they would return for season 9, it was like, "wow, really?"

Well guess what folks; it's not just one more year. CW has stated when Welling signed on for season 9, he also signed on for season 10.

Something tells me if things hold firm, they'll try to go beyond that too.

I enjoy Smallville. I know it has it's flaws; I think everyone agrees on that. They've made mistakes. They likely still will. But when they do something good, they do it very well.

That said, even as a fan, I have to ask: WTF?! :wtf:

The show is called "Smallville" and was supposed to be about the adolescence of Clark Kent. His High School years. Here we are, at a point where if any of the main characters had kept with college, they would be graduating.

By the time this show does finally wrap up, Tom Welling is going to be able to do AARP commercials!

I agree that they are milking Smallville for all it's worth.

But CW has moved Smallville to Fridays night next season. I doubt it will last much longer.

There is actually a lot of good TV on friday's next season. It's not the "death slot" it used to be. Season 18 of Law & Order was moved to Friday, before back to Wednesday, and it actually helped re-build the shows ratings.

Smallville, Medium, Law & Order, Southland...

Pisses me off. LOL.

Ah well. DVD burner, get ready for a workout!

half of the problem is not that the show continues, it that its not been allowed to mature, for starters it should really be 100% Metropolis by now, and whilst Clark has taken great strides as the Red & Blue blur he still is not where he should be.

one thing that might be a problem, is the lack of Lex, ive not been convinced by Tess this season, and I feel the show will still search for a new big bad.

It was kept from maturing by the original showrunners, Gough & Millar, but they left a year ago. The season that just ended was all about breaking Clark and the show out of the rut G&M had forced them into, and making the transitions that should've been made years ago. I assume that will continue next season, especially with the finale severing more ties to Smallville (presumably Chloe's new "Watchtower" will replace both her Talon apartment and the Isis Foundation, and Clark's decision in the finale might be an opening to ditch the Kent farm at long last, which would leave the Luthor mansion as the only remaining permanent setting that's in or near Smallville).

As for the thread title, it's a misunderstanding of the situation. Just because Welling is signed for two more seasons doesn't mean there will be two more seasons. It just means that if there's a decision to do a tenth season, they want to have their star locked in. It's commonplace for actors to be signed for multiple seasons or films just in case, but whether or not there's a tenth season will not be determined by Tom Welling's contract. It will be determined by ratings, by the network's priorities a year from now, and by various other factors. If the show gets cancelled after next season, then Welling will of course be released from his contract.

Actually this has been released for a while. I mentioned it in March I believe in one of the Smallville threads that he'd signed on for two years.

The name Smallville now is a reference to Lois' nickname for Clark: Smallville.

Yeah, with DVDrs, and TIVO, and Online viewing, aren't the Neilson numbers a thing of the past now? I bet if Firefly was released now, It would've survived.

If The Vampire Diaries does well enough to run for a full season on Thursdays then Smallville may well come to an end at the conclusion of its 9th season. But if The Vampire Diaries tanks badly, perhaps dragging Supernatural down with it, then they'd likely yank The Vampire Diaries off the air and move Smallville back to Thursdays, which could conceivably lead to a 10th season.

But how? How long can Clark possibly not be Superman? As for Vampire Diaries, who knows? It's about 2 vampire brothers fighting over a girl who reminds them of a long dead love. It's teenaged angst in vampire lore.

Supernatural won't matter. They've all but said next season will be the last one.

The only way they could make me care about Smallville at this point is if they get Clark in the suit. Which they won't do. Stupid Welling, who can't act. It's made me realize that Smallville is an alternate reality in which Superman never existed. No, no I've heard the excuses before. But reality has finally set it. Clark will never become Superman. Ever. Under any circumstances. If you think it's going to happen, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Renewal prospects aren't the only thing they have to think about. There's also the matter of timeslot ad rates. They can't let the ratings for their Thursday night shows deteriorate too much without taking corrective steps.

He is moving closer to becoming Superman. He's developed a Superhero persona known as The Red Blue Blur.

I was thinking about this earlier. With the recent events the only one who works that the Daily Planet with routine interaction with Clark is Lois - and she's in the 31st Century with the Legion of Superheroes so Clark could, potentially, become Superman without many people being able to recognize him now. The LEGION could wipe her memories.
