Spoilers Two big characters return for anniversary.

I never watched much of Red Dwarf, couldn't get past the first episode the few times I've tried (nothing against Red Dwarf as a show, its just not my kind of comedy), but I kind of thought it was just a general audience comedy show, not a Torchwood audience type of show. I guess that would make things nearly impossible when it comes to a crossover, even without the other issues.

Wow, Red dwarf has basically always aired with timing perfect to not have a crossover. I don't know much about the show outside of it being one of the only non-Doctor Who British sci fi shows that I've heard of (the others being Blakes 7 and Space: 1999), so its interesting to learn a bit about it in this context.
The first episode isn't great (actually it often gets voted worst episode in polls). Watch more. Season two is great, from season 3 it changes from being a sitcom set on a spaceship to a parody of sf.

I’d say it was always both, and it’s actually a pretty hard SF anthology in some places. Series one and two do have stuff like that (confidence and paranoia for instance)

I absolutely adore Red Dwarf. A smegging hilarious series. Even the first season has its great moments. Decades on, my wife and I still find ourselves quoting RD on a regular basis. It's that memorable.

It only started going downhill in the 7th season when Rob Grant left the show. While Doug Naylor did an able job of keeping the show going, it definitely lost something. While I enjoy the later seasons, it's not quite the same.

Well Future Echoes is about as hard sf as anything gets. While still being about how the characters react to what they see.

There’s a decent argument for series 1 and 2 being still very much ‘Dark Star’ influenced, and riffing on the 2001, late sixties to mid seventies ‘hard’ SF, and seasons 3 - 6 being the Alien, and eighties ‘action’ SF. 6 and 7 is where it engages more with the contemporary SF (nineties, virtual reality etc) and series 8 is where it loses my interest a bit because it becomes too much about itself, and too much not itself at the same time. When it comes back it runs straight back at the eighties and nineties, which seems to be its comfort zone.It also regains its intelligence and heart.

Kind of obvious in retrospect but the big week long night shoot that kicks off tonight looks like it's centered around Donna's house. They've picked a good location though, since it's well blocked off from the public's point of view.

The resident who originally leaked the shooting plans is probably the best bet for any juicy scoops, so we'll see what happens.

From tonight's shooting.

Maybe they aren't getting a bigger budget after all...

So this guy has been reminding me of something I'd seen before and I finally realised what it was. Given the adaption needed to fit the costume on an actual person, it looks like one of the Wrath Warriors who appeared in the early days of the Doctor Who Weekly (as it was then) comic strips.

So adapting "The Star Beast" and subbing Rose II in for Sharon then?

Funnily enough, this is something that someone on line was claiming was going to happen and (naturally) didn't get believed. Bad Wolf does seem to have a leak problem.

Edit: Big Finish are giving away this story for free for no particular reason...

Well, to be fair, The Ratings War has been a freebie for years. That's how I got it...a decade ago.

If you'd told me (less than) twenty-four hours ago that Beep the Meep would hit #7 on Twitter's UK Trending chart I'd have laughed in your face.

I was going to add that Chibnall would kill for this free publicity but then I remembered he wouldn't, and that's kinda the problem.
