Twilight(The Worst Thing in the Universe)

I have seen shitty vampire movies and read shitty vampire books, but I honestly fell like I've been raped by these movies. And I blame my girlfriend, who takes me to see these soul-stealing movies. Trust me, If you watch one of these movies, you will disbelieve in everything. If any of you have been effected by these movies, let your anger out here.

If girls want to swoon over the likes of "RPattz" or whoever, and admire his looks, and a load of frankly gay looking werewolfs on the big screen, then they can be my guest.

But those who claim that they're actually great stories and that the books are well written pieces of work...

They are not.

I saw the first one on a bus ride full of teen girls and it SUCKED!! They got mad because I told them it sucked and was stupid.

Wonder why in the Buffy S8 comics
the soulless monstrous universe beget by Buffy and Angel and threatening to destroy the world is called Twilight?
;)

My opinion is I'd rather the market be saturated with carbon-copy teenage vampire novels and movies than teenage wizard novels. That's because I happen to like Harry Potter and, while there were definitely a large number of rip-offs of the Potter concept that came out after, there seems to be more of the teen vampire variety. And those rip-offs seem, as a whole, to be more annoying, to the point where it's having an adverse impact peoples opinions of earlier vampire-culture icons like Buffy, Moonlight and Forever Knight. (BTVS fans are already feeling this as a Twilight-inspired reboot without Joss Whedon is in the offing).

The Potter books and films seem to have avoided a lot of the negative-press of its league of ripoffs, and along the way even managed to get in a dig at Twilight (I do wonder if I'm the only one who caught the joke in Deathly Hallows about Twilight).

As for the OP, I feel for ya. Just 2 more years and Twilight will fade away, though. Just around the time the Hunger Games movies will have taken off, so we'll end up with a bunch of cash-in novels and movies all doing variations of Battle Royale, with teenagers killing each other for sport. I guess that's an improvement on vampires with teen angst, I suppose...

I'm glad Twilight exists, but only because Alex Day mocking the book is utterly fantastic.

I only saw the third film, which I didn't think was the trainwreck I had anticipated. Kristen Stewart's acting was atrocious, Tyler Lautner was wooden as hell, but I thought Robert Pattison wasn't that bad. I also thought the Cullen family was filled with decent actors.

Twilight isn't my thing, but I see no need to slam it. Sure I would love to see more Blade and 30 Days of Night movies and I know Underworld 4 is on the way, but I don't begrudge Twilight opening up the genre to young teenage girls, or whoever their target audience might be, because it might serve as a gateway to turn them on to other genre stuff, leading to more stuff for all of us. Also, Vampire Diaries probably wouldn't got greenlit if not for the Twilight craze and I think TVD is a good bridge between the more bloodthirsty and the teeny bopper stuff.

Though I had to admit that the latest Ultimate Avengers issue had a Blade dream sequence where he goes after Bella and Edward. That was pretty funny.

I don't know who Alex Day is--I presume he is the heir to the legacy of The Time--but I share the sentiment: Twilight's existence is justified because it is so mockably bad. I've probably got more enjoyment out of making fun of Twilight and hearing others make fun of Twilight than any intentional comedy that's been authored in the past five years.

Watch it to laugh at it! I do that with my wife and her sister and we trash it to each other.

Edward proposes to Bella at the end of New Moon. My sister-in-law's friend: "Oh, Jesus."

Bella's screaming in bed missing Edward. Me to my wife, "Man, that's one effective vibrator."

My wife has also decided that she's on "Team Victoria."

Oh, and Ashley Greene's fucking hot.

This would have been my sentiment - I've never read nor seen a Twilight product, have no animus towards the franchise myself, but was amused by the nerdrage - like, two years ago.

Now, though, hating on Twilight is just very passe. It's been done. We've all heard the sparkle jokes, the vampire baseball, the passive-aggressive romance, the imprinting on a baby.

I'm... pretty sure... this franchise has been mined dry of every single snarky witticism geekdom could foist upon it; and even I have grown weary of the petulant interwebs sneering about some tween's preferred franchises.

So can I call a moratorium on Twilight bashing at least until the next movie? Bash Bay instead, he's the gift that keeps on giving.

"The Worst Thing in the Universe."

Spoken like someone who has never seen NIGHT OF THE LEPUS . . . .

On one level, I sympathize with your frustration; I'd doubtless have a hard time being emotionally intimate with a gal who enjoyed these movies on anything but a cornball, Transfomers-stupid level guilty pleasure.

That said, why not do something productive with this annoyance, and take it as a challenge to enjoy more and better erotic/romantic movies together? Consider trying the Brosnan Thomas Crown Affair, which is lots of fun. Definitely see Hitchcock's Notorious if either of you haven't seen it. There's a fantastic teen romance in Sin Nombre. Kirsten Stewart's own Adventureland was pretty good, and I found the Knightley Pride and Prejudice excellent.

Good romantic dramas are hard to come by these days - and that's a very measured and deliberate statement from someone who can't stand wanton moanings about "things these days"; this one happens to be true. You might have to get creative, and try some foreign or older stuff. But if the girl's worth it, you two might have a lot of fun doing so. :)

Pure coincidence.

I have no intention of reading the books or seeing the movies. But I am glad they exist, especially because of the gay-looking werewolves.

I like things that are at least as "mockingly bad" as Twilight.

Let's just be honest, everyone here does.

Vampires Suck is probably worse than Twilight. :p

Not sure why it's called a spoof though since the soulless, talentless filmmakers are only making "reference movies" and not "spoofs."

I'd like to see a Blade-Buffy-Twilight crossover so Blade and Buffy can team up and kill everyone in Twilight.

I can see why a teenage girl would like it; it's a modern retelling of the "dashing prince rescues beautiful princess" tale that made ye olde beautiful maiden swoon with heart-longing in her chest. If you spend more than 30 seconds ripping on it, it's because neither the books nor the movies were written for guys who like to watch shit blow up. Imagine how a teenaged girl would feel watching RoboCop all alone in a theater full of 20-year-old dudes... be objective. It's like being surprised if somebody who grew up in a family that only listened to country and has only listened to that for generations says that their favorite music is Toby Keith.
