Dark Knight style.
That would be a guaranteed failure - far too confusing for the audience for whom, now, the JJ Abrams universe IS real Trek.IMO, a new series has to be another Kirk/Spock reboot, or it's doomed to failure.
That sounds interesting; how did that work? Did the movie actors voice the animated characters?Animated DVD tie-in. Dark Knight style.

If CBS wants to exercise their option to capitalize on the opportunity that Abrams has created for them, at no expense to them.
Don't be horrified, but I haven't seen the Batmans. As a fan, what did you think of the differing voices from the movie. Think it might work better, because Batman is a comic? Countdown looks beautiful. If they did it that style, it would look great. But I don't know about the sound...
Robert! Nothing's been done yet.
Maybe when the movies start to run out of steam, but Paramount have likely learned their lesson with this. Having a bunch of series running together was a mistake. I loved DS9, but people were fatigued by that point. I'd like to see Bryan Fuller given a shot at a series though.
If the next movie is successful, and the third movie is succesful then they'll continue doing them. Though if it goes all Spiderman 3, then they may just do a last movie to send it out. I think a TV series would generate a lot of interest now, as long as its actually good, not a shitfest like Voyager or Enterprise (I know they tried to salvage Enterprise, but for me the whole premise was poor).
I agree that a show on the Kelvin would be a bad idea. As already pointed out, to know that "in just a few years the ship is destroyed with Robau and George Kirk ending up DEAD along with who knows how many others" is a turn off.

Well seeing as how Raimi and crew are doing Spider-Man 4 for May 2011...that's a poor comparison to make. They realize what went wrong with Spidey 3 and are moving on to do a sequel without the suits forcing a villain on Raimi that he never intended to film.
So even if the third Star Trek doesn't live up to expectations, they'll move on. They didn't let Star Trek V stop them.

I really WOULD like to see a nu-TOS era series, with Kirk and Spock, but doubt that'll happen until it's decided the current Kirk/Spock movies are done.
Too bad...
I really don't want to see any new Trek if they're not in it, and I don't care who plays them so long as it's done well.
Not going to happen. No way the actors are going to go from big-budget feature films to do a weekly TV series. And TPTB would be insane if they started a new "spin-off" series about yet another ship, captain, and crew that no one but the three dozen or so super-hardcore Trek nerds care about.
IMO, a new series has to be another Kirk/Spock reboot, or it's doomed to failure. The general public has had its fill of fake Trek. From here on out it's real Trek or nothing. Captain Kirk, not Captain Geraldine Johnson of the Federation warship U.S.S. Beauregard. No one cares.
Sadly I gotta agree that it's not going to happen, despite how much I wish it would! The actors have clawed their way to the big screen and they're not going to go back to a TV series no matter how prodigious, as a new trek would be.
I agree on the second point also, I think Kirk/Spock is the only way to go. Everything in between has paled in comparison to that duo (or trio, with McCoy)
Ah well, hopefully within our lifetimes eh?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Can you not see that the glut of movies/TVS shows is what made 'normal people' (meaning, not us) turn off STAR TREK. We are STILL recovering from a glut of TREK.
I will explain this to you..ALL of you.
When you have a TVSHOW, and a MOVIE series, running at the same time it does TWO things. It gives the producers a radical idea; hey instead of building new sets, we'll just film it on the TV SHOW sets.
So what this does, for normal John Q public, is send a signal that these so called "MOVIES" are just Two-hour episodes with a higher rung of actors. And guess what; that is what most of those TNG movies (and TUC I am sad to say) come off as.
You want to run this movie series into the ground? Make a new series. You want this movie series to last? AVOID TV. Star Trek has had tooooo much TV as it is; or hadn't you noticed.
I know...sometimes I amaze my self.
