TRUEBLOOD: The books, the comics and the tv series

Haven't read the "Southern Vampire Mysteries" Series by Charlaine Harris.

Haven't read the comics (which I believe are based on the TV series True Blood and not the novels themselves.

Yet I have seen every episode of True Blood.

Other than some mindless fun though, I wouldn't say it's anywhere close to being a favorite series.

It's kinda like Smallville, They could stop production tomorrow and I'd be fine, yet I continue to watch what's produced because I want to see how things shake out.

I'd be more interested in an HBO Dresden Files Series that approached it more accurately in tone and style than the Sci-Fi Channel Version ever did. (More in line with the books, that is)

While I've enjoyed True Blood, I would be more than willing to give it up for a true to the books version of The Dresden Files. I've been reading and enjoying both book series for a while now, but I do have to say that the Dresden Files is the better of the two by a fair amount IMO. I'm actually not even sure at this point if I'm going to continue the TB books past the fourth book, which is the latest one I've bought. Dresden Files on the other hand, I'm definitely sticking with.

^Cool, it's good to know I'm not alone in that assessment.

As far as the Southern Vampire Mysteries, I've meant to check out and read at least the first couple books for years now, but nothing about the storyline ever presented a pressing hook enough for me to start. (And I've also heard the books get less focused the further in you go, which would be irritating.)

Is that kind of what happened with you around Book 4?

I guess. I don't know what it was specifally, I've just started to find myself losing interest since I finished Club Dead (book 3). I don't know, maybe after Dead to the World (book 4) I might find my interest renewed. With the Dresden books on the other hand, I'm anxiously trying to work through my ever growing to read pile, so I don't feel guilty getting Death Masks (TDF 5). I'm also read the first book in Kim Harrison's The Hollows series, and I also enjoyed that more than the Sookie Stackhouse books.
As for the True Blood show, it's probably one of the only situations I've come across where I actually enjoyed the show alot more than the source material. True Blood is way better than the books IMO.

I've only watched the show and read the first issue of the comic.
I think seasons 1-2 of the show are some great vamp tv. Season 3 was alright but S4 has me nearly not caring what happens next. It's all gotten way too goofy imo.

no spoilers on S4 please I don't have HBO and have to wait for the blu ray release.

Deadlocked #12 in the southern vampire series / sookie stackhouse is ready for preorder on the nook color. may 1st release.

I just started rewatching the second and then third seasons to prep for the release of season four at the end of the month. Where do the comics fall into the show's timeline?

Theere seperate from the show they mainly are set inbetween each season. But they are great reads.

It's not very good. It starts well, loses ground, becomes completely dull and then manufactures a cliffhanger.
