TRUEBLOOD: The books, the comics and the tv series

timothy

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
season 4 is coming this july and I can't wait. all so I am big fan of the books as well as the comics. and I was just wondering if there are any others who like the books and show as well. watching season 3 right now.

:mallory::devil::evil:

I have read the first six books in the series and have the first three seasons in blu ray since I don't have HBO argh. Now the comics are based on the tv series and are
seemed to be in between season. don't ask me how? I love first season ender which was fanastic , second season way way way to much naked people for my tastel. well especially these people. and this town ship any ways don't want offend any one.
I am not one to talk. and for some reason net flix will run trueblood and not a games of throne go figure that one out.

The books and the show are both favorites of mine, although I actually prefer the show just a little bit over the books. There's just a lot more depth to the show. I'm down to the last 2 episodes of Season 3 on DVD and so far this has been my favorite show yet. But, I swear each season just gets more and more twisted.... but in a good way. I can't wait to see what the do for season 4, but I don't get HBO so I'm gonna have to wait until the DVDs or Blu Rays are out next year.
I haven't read the comics yet, but I plan to eventually.

I love both the books and the show and there are great difference's.
like in club dead book one the go and kill of layfette and he's a big character on the tv series what's up with that and then by book six they write of tara whose sookie's
best friend.

The only similar thing between the books and the series is the names of the characters.

I haven't read the newest book, but the previous 10 were easy and fun read. I like the series, but after reading the books I wish it would be more close to the source material.

you and me both. though I did like how they protrayed debie that bitch.
half way through season 3 plan to finish today. and then onto season one of vampire diaries.

I borrowed Seasons 1&2 from my friend's husband and loved them.I'm waiting to check out Season 3 from the library.I have it on hold and I'm the 10th person.

Love the TV series, haven't read the books but read about them, if I understand correctly, I suspect this season will see significant changes with Bill from the books, it seems like in the books Bill is regulated to second level character, and I don't think the tv series will do that. I could be wrong, about the books or about what they do in the TV series.

Only got into to it recently via DVD but I really enjoy it (currently halfway through Season 3.)

I know IDW do some comics for it (based on the show), but I don't see how they could fit anywhere. As it seems literally every episode takes place right after the last one, including the season finales/openers. So I can't see how they can fit.

[geek]"Non-canon!"[/geek] ;)

I'm wondering how much time has actually meant to have passed since the first episode and where I am now. Seems like only a month or two maybe, yet I imagine its supposed to be longer

There are many fans of the series (both books and tv series) on this board. When the tv season is airing new episodes, I will start a polling and discussion thread shortly before each new episode airs. As you are waiting to watch them on dvd, you may wish to avoid the threads, as they are full of spoilers.

The comics are done apart from the tv series. What that means is, the people producing the series are not involved in writing/developing the comics. I believe they are trying to fit stories wherever they see potential gaps in the episodes. That's how Charlaine explained it, anyway. Also, she doesn't see anything from sales of the True Blood comics. She WILL see money and have control over the graphic novel versions of the books, which are coming soon.

I swear each season just gets more and more twisted.... but in a good way.

It's true. But then, so do the books. They are the basis for the series, so if you want to see what's coming, read the books.

You're misremembering. Club Dead was book 3. Living Dead in Dallas was book 2. For those who have only seen the tv version, you'll remember that at the end of the first season, the cliffhanger was a black body being found in a car outside Sam's bar. It was Miss Jeanette, the woman who was was running a scheme on Tara and her mother. In the book, that was LaFayette. LaFayette was a very minor character in the book, and wasn't around very long.

Love the TV series, haven't read the books but read about them, if I understand correctly, I suspect this season will see significant changes with Bill from the books, it seems like in the books Bill is regulated to second level character, and I don't think the tv series will do that. Sookie does have an ... interesting ... love life. With so many potential suitors, some of them have to go into the background while others are having their stories told. I believe that was the original intent behind Jessica (who is not in the books) - a reason for Bill to have more screentime.

But then, consider that the books are entirely first-person. What we see is only through Sookie's eyes. A tv show can't work that way, so other characters are built up and get more screen time. Tara is one of those.

Each book only covers a few days, with the subsequent book taking place a few weeks or months later. I believe book 11 takes place approximately two years after book 1 starts ... lots of things happen very quickly.

The tv series is following that lead, with each episode ending on a cliffhanger, going right into the next episode. The only "breaks" are those within the episodes themselves. The upcoming first episode of season 4 will still have only been a few weeks from when Bill first walked into the bar and met Sookie in the pilot.

^ Indeed, which is why I found it kinda odd at the end of Season 2 Bill & Sookie were essentially willing to get married (engaged at least) when they'd really only known each other a couple of weeks

I've just caught up on Season Three of True Blood on On Demand. What a great show. It's the perfect mix of camp, straight drama and total insanity; it's got a real EC vibe to it. Unfortunately, Bill has totally lost my sympathy in the last episode, so it will be interesting to see where Season Four goes.

And they really need to have Tara take off her clothes more often. :rommie:

she does but they don't aim the camera down wards why she's hot.
all so we need to see more of pam naked she's a hottie to.

I rather enjoyed the first two (uneven) seasons, regardless of the fact the show doesn't know if it wants to be a drama (death of Godric), a farce (most of Jason and the Keystone Kops) or an actual allegory (the Chidren of the Sun). And it's a great pity the two leads are the least interesting thing about the show, yet...

I gave the first book a go.

And, frankly, it was one saddest pieces of subcrafted FanFic I've ever waded through. It really does boggle me how it got published. Then again, the first Twilight book was equally trite, yet...

Thank the gods an ACTUAL writer, Alan Ball, took Harris' cute ideas and wrote some proper dialogue around them for the TV show.

I've yet to watch season 3 following a friend of mine lambasting it. Yet, she is a huge fan of the books, so there's a block of salt-lick attached to her when it comes to the show.

For me, for all its daftness and shortcomings, this is one of the few screen adaptations which is unequivocally stronger and smarter than the source material.

Hugo - Giving V to Jason Stackhouse is like givin' ho ho's to a diabetic!

jason grows up quiet a bit after the fourth book. and I think well see more of that in the fourth season.

Everyone's taste is different. I really like the books and have read them for years, but I don't care for several of the actors in the series. I might like the series more if the casting had been better.

she does but they don't aim the camera down wards why she's hot.
all so we need to see more of pam naked she's a hottie to.
If we're talking about who we want to see (more of) naked, I'm going with Jessica. Deborah Ann Woll is gorgeous IMO and it's a shame that in a show with so much nudity we haven't seen more of her.
