You know it is possible that Kosinski and Lisberger asked Carlos to score the new film, and she simply declined.

Besides, if you miss the original film, Legacy has given Lisberger the opportunity (read:funding) to remaster the originall in high-definition.

As much as this film fell short, it has a lot of good things to offer, not least of which is a remastering of the original by the original director. Treasure this.
 
It's odd that some fans of the original Tron have such a fiercly intense attachment to the Wendy Carlos score... To me, that score was certainly the least memorable part of the film.
(I'm not saying it is bad, but it completely fades in comparison to the look and story of the film)

I think that the Daft Punk/Zimmer score is one of the most successful elements of the new film (among many), and I have been listening to it a lot lately.
 
I have to agree with Hyperspace. I never really understood why that score is held in such a high regard.

Carlos was a groundbreaking composer of electronic music, and her score for that film inspired many people...including Daft Punk. I recall reviews from the 1980s the credited both the FX and the Carlos score for conveying the feeling of the electronic world.

I totally love and remember the score. Could be because of the arcade game...

...at the same time, I don't mind Carlos didn't do the new one... love the new score.

Bring on #3.
 
Koskinski has been quoted as saying that there was only one consideration for scoring the movie and that was Daft Punk. I don't know if that was simply a grandiose statement trying to appease fans or something but it doesn't sound like any one else was approached to score the music. What does Zimmer have to do with Daft Punk's score though? I don't get that comment.

Daft Punk worked with a Zimmer production company on the score. There are many Zimmer-esqe sequences in the score - which I don't mind.

In particular, track #4 ("Recognizer") starts off very much sounding like Zimmer's work on "Inception" or "Dark Knight".
 
I did not know that. I did notice the similarities but just thought that was Daft Punk paying homage in their own way.
 
Weak plot and story, impressive visuals and special effects. So just like the original film. :p It as enjoyable enough though.

Notable mention to Jeff Bridges for doubling as hero and villain (but did anyone else get a Obi-Wan Kenobi/Anakin Skywalker vibe when it came to the relationship between Kevin and Clu? ;) ).

Yeah. He was pretty petty in that review and I too even noticed the rants he made on things made clear in the film.
 
Just returned from it and it was excellent entertainment.

Visually stunning, the music was amazing and fit right in (thanks Daft Punk!) and the story wasn't half bad.

Best thing though was my buddy (shaved head, can look mean but is a cool guy) putting some idiots in front of us loudly into their place when talked in the beginning of the movie ("Hu hu.. it's made by Disney.."). The guys talked smack back but shut up when they realized he was not alone but that there were four of us :lol:

The story has some holes but it was a joyride and that's all i'm asking for.. not every movie can be of Inception quality but Tron Legacy definitely has found its own style and i hope they can come up with something good for a sequel.

I really had to reign myself in at the finale when Sam fell into the iconic Tron pose.. wasn't expecting that :techman:
 
Saw it yesterday on 3d imax - some nice visuals, not much of a story and my attention kept wandering.

TRON LEGACY has been announced on DVD and BLU-RAY for April 5th. The original is also being released the same day on Blu. Both movies will be available separately and in a combo package.
