For what it's worth, Plec, I don't think you were trolling, or lying.
I was rather surprised by the reaction to close both your threads and then the idea that you had been trolling or playing "sock puppet". People take pain and grief differently, and it was well known that you and Wife of Brian had wicked senses of humor, and that you saw things in a different way. I believe that, any way.

Exactly. Plec has a very offbeat sense of humor, and the way he approached his wife's passing seemed "in character" for who he is. It did not seem at all odd, and I could absolutely see Wife of Brian laughing and approving at his ideas. She was one hell of a lady.

I've found most people are open about who they are. A few are careful about the info they give out but many don't realize just how much they are giving away. Like gamers who use their area codes in their tags, or their birth year. Then they actually list their hometown in their public profile. Stupid. TMI.

As for the trolls-like it was said earlier, some people like to be assholes.

As for me, I don't give out a whole lot of information, but what you see of my personality, for better or for worse, is me.

Think about it though, if Plec is being honest (and I think he is), his wife died, and T'Bonz essentially told him he was lying and being a troll. Now, if that happened to you, wouldn't you be the slightest bit pissed?

He was clearly using hyperbole. I'm with J on this one. I'd like to know the truth, I don't know Plec well enough to make a call, but we don't really have a right to demand anything of him. I'd really like to know the truth, though, because they were posters whose posts I read a lot of.

I admit that I just don't know who to believe. I don't know Plecostomos well at all - we've only had a couple of exchanges here and there - but I wouldn't have thought he'd pull a stunt like this. On the other hand, while T'Bonz can be harsh, she is in my experience usually fair, and goodness knows people have pulled stranger pranks. So I don't know. At all. We have no right to ask anybody to prove anything, but I would like to know because I have fond memories of some major chuckles from Wife of Brian.

I sure hope that if any documents ARE transmitted that all of that is done in private. It would be very, VERY inappropriate to put anything like that in a public forum! I sure as hell wouldn't if it were me facing this accusation.

I will share a story with you guys, before I close this thread, which is basically a discussion of Pleco's thread and really not appropriate for Misc.

I've seen online scams and trolls. I've had online chat friends who turned out to be lying about age, lying about marital status. Said people were decent, well-liked, fun and kept their stories straight. Both pinged the B.S. detector (as in this case) and I confronted one directly, who admitted to his lie and the other I was able to prove it later in time.

I've also had a well-liked moderator on another board fake her death (courtesy of word from her sister.) With the help of a poster, I figured out her real name and spoke to her school counselor and her father. Not. Dead. She was known to some though, for weird stories (I was almost raped. I was run off the road by someone following me.)

So I tend to be skeptical. I believed this at the very first read, until I began to think. Then the b.s. started to pile up concluding with the ludicrous baby thing today.

Plec, I don't NEED a picture (which could be obtained anywhere on the 'net and is not "proof".) If this is legit, give me the name of the mall where this happened (as I'm too lazy to check out your closest city and yes I know where it is, I'm a genealogical researcher who knows her stuff) and the name of the funeral home. I will call them myself, as I did with the other faked death.

Death certificates aren't issues for a few weeks, if memory serves, when it comes to current deaths. Given that someone died unexpected, a coroner's investigation might take place, I don't know as I've not looked into modern death issues.

However, this stinks to high heaven. I've let it go for a few days until today's bullshit. It was just one story too much.

I think T'Bonz is still pissed off about the "Partsking is dead" thread from a while back (was it two years ago?). That was one terrible hoax. I think the staff is trying to be more careful about stuff like this.

As for being ashamed and not returning when busted? Um, a troll wants attention and he has to come back and see everyone riled up and add to it if he can. The fun continues - or it did until I stopped it.
