There are times when I wonder about all the trolling that goes on, like how some posters aren't who or what they claim to be, even some of the proflic ones, or the obscure ones (more than I).

I'm not sure if some find how I lost a job, went back to school and got my first girlfriend ever and got engaged within 3 1/2 months of our first date unbelivable.

Three well known posters here have met me, but they couldn't verify much about me.

I wonder what's the point of all that. Are they writing a psychology thesis on reaction of people on an internet messaging with horrible grammar and compliants about one's grandmother, or about an incident at the mall? Whatever. I better get going...class time whoo (for real, I swear).

Some people just like to pass the time making other people upset. The internet is fairly anonymous, you can be anything you want to be, and some people want to be assholes.

Everybody wants to be naked and famous.:lol:

You can't really tell for sure if people are telling the truth and they are who they are and what they do, etc. In my case, I just take it for granted that most people are usually telling the truth (unless they have an ulterior motive to tell a lie). My advice: it's wise to take things with a grain of salt. Thank you.

It is a mostly unique creature of the internet, isn't though? I mean, there are people who lie about things in real life situations, but nothing to the extent or purposes that trolling on the internet can go to.

I've always thought that there is some psychological thing going on.

I think about it sometimes too. What's the purpose? I don't know because I don't do it. I swear, there are at least two people here at the BBS that have met me in real life and can confirm the sordid details of my past.

It reminds me of way back when I first got the internet in the late 90s, when I was about 12 years old. I enjoyed IMing with my group of friends from real life but they always wanted to go into chat rooms together and pretend to be other people. They thought this was the most hilarious pasttime ever. I didn't think it was fun and in fact it made me feel very uncomfortable to pretend like that. It's just so...pointless.

I've found most people are open about who they are. A few are careful about the info they give out but many don't realize just how much they are giving away. Like gamers who use their area codes in their tags, or their birth year. Then they actually list their hometown in their public profile. Stupid. TMI.

As for the trolls-like it was said earlier, some people like to be assholes.

In my experience, people who will lie online will lie just as easily in person. And even if you can catch them red handed, they'll deny lying in either place.

I figured all of that. Just weird. I also wonder if some trolls believe what they are saying. Ah well

...and eventually if you troll and asshole enough guess what you become moderator in charge of a forum... arch asshole lording over the rest of the lesser assholes. :)

I actually tell the truth pretty much always online these days. I had a period back around when I started posting here when it was fun to make it up a little bit, but nothing major. Over all I find truth more interesting then fiction, so to say.

I guess the real question is whether or not we were just trolled big time with Plec's thread.

Yes, this is a question I'd like answered somewhat definitively. (As much as can be online anyway)

I don't want to believe it. On the one hand, I bopped over to Plec's private forum and there's no mention of it what-so-ever. But on the other, there's been hardly any traffic over there for quite awhile anyway so that's not damning evidence.

Like that time you told everybody you owned IKEA.

Good times. :bolian:

I'm pretty sure I've always been honest here (and everywhere online really) but just in case someone out there has a misconception, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: I am not actually Optimus Prime.

I'd like an answer, too, considering how both posters were very involved with this board over the last year or so.

Making up details and trying to pass them off as the truth seems like too much hard work, and is far, far harder to do than just to tell the truth about yourself. Of course, for safety reasons, I'm happy to just change the names to protect the innocent rather than reveal things that could be compromising - for example I wouldn't reveal my real name (which by the way actually IS Zion Ravescene ).

There's a difference between owning, and OWNING! Seriously, why they rebuilt their store in Uppsala? My doing.

;)

I should add to the subject though that there's actually very few people I believe 100%. Mostly because I have huge trust issues, having been greatly deceived by people close to me (or rather who used to be). It's a bit cynical way to look at it, but it's been a long time since I went on blind faith about anything.

I haven't had time for the other forum, time to promote that properly because on one level I knew this was coming on the other hand I wasn't expecting it so soon. Denial and blind-love and all that happy horseshit. :)

Right now, I'm sitting in a coffee house, waiting for an answer from the moderator staff here. One of two things need to happen, either my thread gets reopened and T'Bonz's little tirade gets expunged or I expect my account to be closed and deleted. I sat down here expecting to contact one of her friends over Facebook, not looking to get into a flamewar on TrekBBS.

When it comes down to it, I can and will post "proof" if T'Bonz demands it, I will take pictures of Jen's corpse tomorrow before she is cremated and I will post them here in a special thread for any and all to see.

I mean that's more or less what she's asking, she's asking for proof that I have a dead spouse.

Accuse me of tolling, that's fine. But when it comes down to it I've been trolled in the worst possible way by the ADMINISTRATOR OF THE FORUM and guess what! No one seems to notice or care.
