Trek's catsuit problem with female actresses

I like the skant uniform, albeit with proper leggings and boots. If done right, it has a futuristic-take on a medieval tunic.
Medieval women's tunics were either floor-length if nothing was worn under them, or at least knee-length if a skirt or under-dress was worn beneath it.

T'Pol was particularly odd because all other Vulcans wore gowns :D
None of the gown-clad Vulcan women were working on starships. Gowns would be completely impractical for on-duty garb, regardless of who wore them.

The most egregious starfleet uniform sin is the lack of hats.
Q did the hat-wearing in TNG. Kirk and Spock wore hats if required to fit in with the natives when they were on various planets.

Before Pike's Peak, there was Pike's Hat

And the Kelvin Timeline films ran with that, giving Starfleet Academy cadets and general officers service caps. So that hat now makes perfect sense. It's from his Academy days or his service cap for use with his dress uniform. :)
Always looked like a Marine Corps 8 point cap to me.

I think the caps the Academy shuttle hangar crew in 2009 wear are similar to that one. The dress uniform cap is more like a modern military service cap with a black visor and brim.

they do show female Vulcans in S3 on that Vulcan ship they find in the expanse. I think they were wearing an actual uniform it just wasn’t skin tight.

The fanon/literature assumption is that the hat goes with the uniform in Pike's fantasy with the officer there when Pike is being an "Orion trader." Something like this:

My only annoyance is that the hat didn't really match the pullover. But, other than that, hats were welcome.

I assume you're talking about Enterprise? I have never seen the entire series and what I did see was out of order. I just don't remember seeing any Vulcan starship personnel wearing gowns.

T'Pol's great-grandmother wore a jumpsuit or uniform so we can rule her out as a gown-wearing Vulcan when on space duty.

The FC crew had gowns, but perhaps they only put them on for ceremonial purposes and throw them in the corner as soon as the doors close again :D

This is a good point. Wear the ceremonial robes to greet the Earth people, then take them off when we prepare for liftoff. Assuming that they weren't all properly drunk by that point from drinking the booze at the encampment's bar. :p

For Seven and TPol, there was no reason for the catsuit ( in universe reason) but for Troi, if you look at Lower Decks, the counselor, he wears a regular suit, not a uniform. So growing up, I thought it was okay for her to wear something different other than the uniform because of her job. Now if she was on the bridge, definitely uniform, but in her office setting, something more relaxed. Maybe not a skintight skirt, but something to relax the patient.

Yeah, I mean, I don't have a problem with the idea that ship's counselors might wear civilian clothing during counselling sessions with their patients, but I would not consider a skintight catsuit to be appropriate on-duty attire for a mental health care provider.

One has to wonder what is the most logical outfit.?
