Trekmovie's starship round-up [SPOILERS]

You know, my favorite tit-bit is that Engineering was a redressed set at an "industrial location".

That fucker is going to be huge.

People, people, I brought up what T'Pol said on Enterprise as a joke.

Sorry for going on that tangent. ;) I guess I'm still a bit miffed at how Enterprise portrayed my favorite fictional aliens although Coto made a good effort to clean up most of that mess in the 4th Season (the only reason why I bothered watching Enteprise again).

I love spoilers, but for some strange reason I resisted reading these. I finally broke and really enjoyed what I read. It is nice to have some new information. I hope that these small bits of information keep coming. However, this is the first time that I haven't wanted to read the entire script in advance, so I hope that remains under wraps.

Did anyone notice the tidbit about George Kirk being XO of the USS Kelvin?
That was the first big spoiler that I noticed, because I wasn't expecting George Kirk to be a Starfleet officer. This is going to be very interesting.

I always kinda figured that the Vulcan's of the Enterprise-NX Era said that time travel was impossible for a reason. They probably already knew it was, but they didn't want the Humans finding out and muckin' around with it.

Just like they kept certain info about WARP Drives away from humans as long as possible, they didn't want US muckin' around in their corner of the Universe screwin' things up (which is exactly what Archer and his crew did.)

BTW: I loved ENTERPRISE, I liked the way the Vulcan's were portrayed as feeling slightly superior to these johnny-come-lately's ( again, Humans), cause THEY WERE!!

We ARE a pretty arrogant life form and probably deserve to be slapped down a bit when we go charging about in somebody else's playground!

Spock will use the Nexus to travel back in time. As a side effect of this he will revive the SHAT!

Oh wait, Shat doesn't do cameos. Scratch that. TIMESHIP!

Looking forward to seeing the USS Kelvin -will they go for some "in between" design following on from the NX-01 or something heading back towards the pseudo-canon Daedalus? I'd personally like to see something like the USS Yorktown by Zardoz on display at the JoAT over at ex-astris-scientia.org (I'd link the pic if ol' Bernd put up with that sort of carry-on).

As for time-travelling guys with pointy ears, can anyone else see Kirk's first run around the block with the Big E, following the hand-off from Pike, involving kicking some 24th century romulan arse...er.... warbird tail feathers? That would buy our boy some serious fleet cred(at least among those privy to what would probably be a "classified" incident).

Do you mean this Yorktown by Zardoz?

Don't say you weren't warned.

That is a lot of ships. Closest I think they've ever come to that many is TSFS and Nemesis (three a piece).

INCORRECT! "Star Trek: First Contact" introduced 7 new classes of starships:

  • Sovereign-class
  • Akira-class
  • Steamrunner-class
  • Saber-class
  • Norway-class
  • Borg Sphere
  • Type 2 Borg Cube (Type 1 was used in TNG and had horizontal and vertical lattice work on its outer hull, this new type had angular armour-like hull plating on its outer hull. This new type was reused in VOY, though I'm not sure if those had the ability to launch a Sphere like the one in "Star Trek: First Contact".)

Hopefully J.J. Abrams is following the ST:First Contact example by throwing in some background ship eye candy, even if screen time is limited - the Akira, Norway, Sabre and Steamrunner were all pretty much in the "blink and you missed it" class in FC.

I was referring to ships with bridges which the article was discussing. There could be a lot more vessels that we see in the film.
